Things new authors don't realize in the beginning, is that if you'd like to have someone read and review your work, it's best to have some sort of etiquette. The world of social networking intertwining with the world of self publishing, authors forget that. Im pleased to present an author with wonderful etiquette =D
My last Author Spotlight of the day is Red Harvey, author of paranormal/horror fiction novel "Cursed."
I will admit, that when I began reviewing books, tons of indie authors swarmed me with review requests, and so many were not educated in the type of books I enjoy to review. I love multiculturalism. I cant help it. I'm multicultural. I am a Black woman, I am a Latina woman, Im an American, and so much more. So when I reread my emails for requests, I noticed Red Harvey's and decided to flip the pages.
While Im not drawn to horror, I am naturally drawn to anything paranormal. I think her first chapter was what most indie authors would want in their first chapter. A great first line, and grabbing, so much you want to know what's going to happen!
Her novel "Cursed" centers around a woman whom has the ability to see the future with anyone she looks in the eye. Her ability is more potent when she is able to touch them. She's not sure why she can see the future, as she realizes fates, even horrific ones, can not be changed.
That isnt even the worst of it. She predicted the deaths of her own sisters, and her ability has been proven itself more a curse than a gift. Upon returning home to attend her sister's funeral, she reunites with an old friend. But when she cant see his future, no one can predict the journey she will have to embark upon in the next coming weeks.
I had a few questions about the characters in the beginning, and the author clarified the questions, about the ethnicity of the love interest. He is Native American, and a lot of the book's lore is based on Native American culture. The main character herself is somewhat Latina. She is a direct descendant of the Conquistador/Explorer Hernando De Soto, whom was from Spain.
The author herself is Latina! So Im very proud to spotlight her. :)
I got halfway through the book and just purchased it in paperback. I havent finished it quite yet, but when I do, I will be sure to leave a review. I wish Red Harvey a fruitful career in her next novel, and hope everyone will take the time to check out her first book!
