Rosanne Cedroni | 24 comments For some crazy reason I love books about shipwrecks! Here is one of my favorites by Joan Druett:
Island of the Lost: Shipwrecked at the Edge of the World

Strange that I didn't see it on the "Shipwreck" shelf on this site. It's a true story and a real page turner.

Rosanne Cedroni | 24 comments Please let me know how you like it! I'll have to read the Swiss Family, I know it's a classic :-)

By the way, I also loved Robinson Crusoe!

Alex Fernandez In the Heart of the Sea is another you might have read, or might wish to.

Thom Cahir (thomcahir) | 3 comments How about Lord of the Flies? It's not technically a shipwreck but the plane is downed on an island.

Poe wrote a novel inspired by the whaleship Essex.

The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket

Rosanne Cedroni | 24 comments I read "In the Heart of the Sea" LOVED it! Highly recommended (but it gets a bit gross sometimes, ha!ha!)

I also loved Lord of the Flies - and I knew someone who knew the author (brushed with fame...)

However, the Poe book is news to me, I'll have to look that one up.

Thom Cahir (thomcahir) | 3 comments In my book, I have pirates try to commandeer a boat being used as transit for my soldiers of fortune and they meet an unfortunate and untimely end, leading to the mercenaries setting the pirate ship asail to shipwreck on a deserted island in the Red Sea where the local bird population picks apart their lifeless bodies.

MichelleCH (lalatina) | 63 comments There is something so interesting about being shipwrecked and trying to recreate a somewhat reasonable existence. I also find it really interesting when it goes wrong like Lord of the Flies. Some good suggestions here.

MichelleCH (lalatina) | 63 comments Charly, have you visited Plymouth Plantations? You can tour a recreation of the Mayflower and talk to actors playing the parts of the Pilgrims. What struck me was the small size of the ship and the length of the trip. It was also a nightmare for anyone with kids. Very sobering.
