Yeah, I agree. I guess he is just the regular popular kid who, because of how our society is built, treats anyone who won't conform like they're a freak. I mean, he had a right to be kinda angry that his girlfriend was paying too much attention to who everyone else considered the school 'creep', but I feel like he took it way overboard by doing the things he did. He was ridiculously possessive and cruel. I also think that his behavior was also fueled by jealousy. You would think that since he's the school "stud" that he wouldn't think of Varen as any type of competition, but he obviously felt threatened by Varen in a strange way. Not physically, obviously, but in another way. Maybe, just by how much more influence Varen seems to have on Isobel after the short amount of time they've known each other that he doesn't.
What do you mean? Do you think that Brad would have gotten killed anyway or that Isobel could've saved Varen? Wasn't Isobel still not able to save Brad? I think I remember that she found Brad, but soon after he was turned into the Red Death and she still hadn't been able to stop it.
Yeah, that's what happened. I guess it's better that she left Varen to go and save Brad. 'Cause then, there wouldn't have been much left to write about as far as sequels go if Isobel saved Varen in the first book.
I don't like Brad. He's a jerk and a bully. But he didn't really deserve to be tortured and possessed.

I agree. The torture he received seemed too much.

The broken leg, though...THAT he deserved.

Yeah, I hate him too. I've been re-reading the first and second books to keep my memory sharp for Oblivion and I forgot that Brad had beaten Varen up.... even though I feel kind of guilty about what happened to him, reading that again added fire to my dislike of him.

I completely forgot about that! Brad was a total jerk!!!! Ok, I feel a little less bad about the Nocs attack; why couldn't he just leave poor Varen alone?

I know, right? But even Varen had started to feel guilty about what the Nocs were doing to him when he had the most reason to hate Brad...

That proves that Varen is the bigger, classier man. :)
Any other guy would have been kind of happy that the person who bullied them were finally getting their just desserts.

Yeah. :P Pinfeathers said it also had to do with how Isobel changed Varen.
