I've been trying to work my way through his major works, but the "collected edition" I have has really terrible translations. Is there anyone in the group that can recommend decent-to-good translations for Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karamazov?

The best translations are all by Constance Garnett, from around the turn of the 20th century. I've read Crime and Punishment 4 times, all that translation. She captures the feel of the original language and somehow it still feels modern and fluent, in a way. Her translation of The Idiot is also beautiful, which I note because I also read the Oxford Classics translation of that book and it was stuffy, dry and academic. Constance famously translated many other Russian authors from that period, as well, such as Tolstoy and Tergenev. She's the one all fans recommend. I'm not sure if she did my version of Brothers Karamazov.
