If I choose to go by a character's name, does it have to be the main character or it can be any character who appears in the book?
Mods have decided it needs to the main character of a book. I have copied and pasted their definition here:Addendum:
Yes, we will allow main character (MC) names!
MC Definition: Only major characters will be allowed, or one that plays an important part. So for instance in Dead Until Dark, you may use Sookie, Bill, Sam, Eric, or Pam; but, not Arleen or the other vamps that appear only for a few scenes.
I've got the perfect book for Category 4: Science and Nature - read books that deal with technology, travel, vacations, outdoors, camping, or going on an adventure Technology -
Exposure by Therese Fowler This book is about the consequences of a young teenage couple sexting when the girls father finds out and decides to press charges against her boyfriend.
I already have my Category 2 book picked out from Kim's read shelf.
Bonnie by Iris JohansenKim rated it 5 stars and I have had it on my tbr list for quite awhile.
Is this where I should post when I finish the book?
I also plan on doing my own trivial pursuit minichallenge and read a book in all 6 categories. Should I post my progress here or would that be strictly for my own benefit without any benefit for the team?
Please post your progress here. The team needs a total of 75 books in the month of August. Any books you read in August will help the team. All 6 of your intended books will definitely count.Included in those 75 books, Category 1 needs 14 books to finish the spell out, Category 3 needs at least 8 different colors of covers, and all the other categories will need to have at least one book each.
The minimum only adds up to 26 books so there are still 49 other books to be put into categories 2-6 to complete the challenge.
Not sure if this will work for the trivia challenge or not. Maybe one of the other teams doors? It didn't seem to fit any of the other categories.
Blind Sight: A Novel by Terri PersonsFinished 8/1
Lead character is Bernadette Saint Claire so maybe this would work for the S in the spell it out.
I also just finished
Exposure: A Novel by Therese Fowler for Category 4: Science and Nature - read books that deal with technology, travel, vacations, outdoors, camping, or going on an adventure This would fit technology because this book is about the consequences of a young teenage couple sexting when the girls father finds out and decides to press charges against her boyfriend. Only in today's hi-tech world would this happen.
I read
Bonnie by Iris Johansen by Iris Johansen from teammate Kim's Read shelf to fulfill category 2 (people).Kim rated it 5 stars and I have had it on my tbr list for quite awhile. I rated it 3 stars - Finished 8/2
I have finished the following:
The Concrete Blonde by Michael Connelly Harry Bosch! - could be used for #1 for an M for author or and H for main character
Cold Granite by Stuart MacBride - could be used for # 1 - M for author
Circle of Quilters by Jennifer Chiaverini might be good for one of the blue doors
I've finished:
, If Books Could Kill by Kate Carlisle - Category 1 (main character's last name is Wainwright), Category 3 - blue cover (is that enough blue?), Category 4 - main character travels from US to Scotland
, Death at La Fenice: A Novel of Suspense by Donna Leon - Category 3 - brown cover, Category 6 - published in 1992
Thanks Jackie and Sheila. I will update the progress post later tonight after work.@Jackie - I will put your first book in Category 4 and your second book in category 3 unless you wanted one of the other categories more, they will fit all your listed categories
@Sheila - I will put your books in the categories you stated. Your third book will fit under Wild Blue Yonder.
I'm not sure what category this book would fit into unless there is a white door. Anyway I finished.
Supreme Justice LP: A Novel of Suspense by Phillip Margolin
I finished this one today. It looks like it should fit into one of the light blue doors or the authors name should work in the spell it out.
The Stranger You Seek by Amanda Kyle Williams
Working on it right now, it is now in Category 3 for a black cover. Just wanted that post there so I knew where I had stopped adding books to the list in posts 4-8.
Timing is everything. The team is almost 1/3 of the way complete in the first 4 days since books only need to be finished in August.Still required to complete the challenge:
-Spell out letters M,E,R,T
-Besides the spell out, 35 more books read to fit anywhere into Categories 2-6
finished for spell it out V
it could also be used for #6 as all the boys wanted to be john travolta or donnie osmond! it didn't give a year but i'm guessing it would have been in the 70s.
I finished
An Unsuitable Job for a Woman by P.D. JamesThis should work for that pesky U in the spell it out. Finished 8/5
Shawna wrote: "finished for spell it out V

Kim wrote: "crap I posted in the wrong forum LOL I just finished
for category 4, technology"That's all right, I would have figured it out.
Sheila wrote: "Today I finished
At the End of the Road by Grant JerkinsThis could be used as a color perhaps."
Which color do you think works? I am having trouble deciding what color I think it is(yellow?, lt brown?). It could be used for the last A in the spell out as well.
I think it is brown/green. Not the green of Electric Lime. But I think it might work for Blast Off Bronze.
I finished two "Dirty" books today. Dirty Martini has olives on the cover so could work for # 5
The Dirty Secrets Club by Meg Gardiner
Dirty Martini by J.A. Konrath
I just finished
Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon (1052 pages). Will fit nicely into any number of categories, so feel free to plunk it in wherever it is needed.
Updated to here.Still required to complete the challenge:
-Spell out letters M,E,R,T
-Besides the spell out, 35 more books read to fit anywhere into Categories 2-6
I completed 2 more books last night.
Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer - about climbing Mt. Everest so could be adventure and travel
The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogawa - could be used for a blue door..Viscountess Viridian - one of the books I posted yesterday could be used for the M - Dirty Secrets Club by MEG Gardiner if you wanted to switch it.
Finished
, Oracles of Delphi Keep by Victoria Laurie - Could qualify for #4 - going on an adventure or #5 - Young Adult

Category 1: Wild Card - Spell out SUMMER HEAT WAVE(14 books)
In the Spell-It-Out section, for each letter read books with titles (only the first or starting word will count), series names, authors (both first or last names), character (first or last name), that begin with letters that correspond to letter of the phrase or term you choose. You may ignore the indefinite and definite articles (a, an, the, etc.)
Category 2: People and Places - Ask a team member to choose a book from your specified shelf and then read it(places) or read a book from a team member's shelves with a rating of at least 4 stars(people)
You may post a request in July in order to be able to find and read the book in time, but the book will not count unless finished in August.
Category 3: Arts and Entertainment - read a book with a cover to match another team's door (at least half the teams or 8 books)
To create less confusion, the colors wanted for each team are listed and team captains have discretion to determine if enough of color is on cover
Category 4: Science and Nature - read books that deal with technology, travel, vacations, outdoors, camping, or going on an adventure
These are only examples of what may fit in this category
Category 5: Sports and Leisure - read YA books before those teens have to go back to school or create a summer salad by reading books with fruit/veggie(image or word) on the cover
Category 6: History - Read books published at least 10 years ago or set at least 10 yrs ago.
This can include classics, Agatha Christie, historical fiction, etc.
Rules
1. You are not required to participate if you choose not to and may just read and tag books with your shelf. The captain reserves the right to use a book from your shelf if it will fit a needed category.
2. Categories with no specified amount of books will require at least 1 book read to complete the challenge.
3. A book may be used for only one category. Please post which category you read it for.
4. The team will need to read 75 books this month during this challenge to earn the Book Advantage Points(BAP)
5. A fun personal challenge for faster readers: Just as in the real game of Trivial Pursuit, try to earn a wedge from each category (1 book each in all 6 categories) or try to fill a game piece all in one category (6 books from one specific category)
