I'm actually feeling really crappy today. My son has had fever for nearly a week -either a very bad flu or some viral thingy and reckon, I caught it :(

So what did I do? Stopped by St. Vinnies whilst I went grocery shopping and spent $11 on the following

Freedom by Jonathan Franzen Suite Française by Irène Némirovsky Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn Foal's Bread by Gillian Mears

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Wow, Tien - those are some great books. I have Freedom to read myself, and Gone Girl is one of my best books from last year.

I know, St. Vinnies is a treasure trove! I mean there are a few others I'd buy but these titles are so above all the others, ya know, so I limited myself to these :)

so happy :D

I would be, too. :) Hope you and your son are feeling better soon.

The Man Booker Long list is out and one of the books, The Kills is basically 4 books in 1. There is this offer for getting the first book (electronic version) for "free" : Pay with a Tweet.

I, of course, had just taken up the above offer :)

Thanks, Lisa. Not sure when I'd get to it though considering the considerable number of books I seemed to have accumulate the last 12months

Julia (juliace) I went out to a local Historic Site yesterday and picked up the following Visiting Small-Town Florida by Bruce Hunt and One Tank Trips Off the Beaten Path with Bill Murphy by Bill Murphy from their gift shop. MY BF, Mother nephew and I love day-tripping and I think we'll get plenty of use out of these.

While on vacation last week in South Carolina, I could not resist going to the local library and checking their for sale shelves. Came home with The Burning Wire (Lincoln Rhyme, #9) by Jeffery Deaver and The Smoke Jumper by Nicholas Evans - both like-new hardcovers. My husband picked up The Greatest Game Ever Played Harry Vardon, Francis Ouimet, and the Birth of Modern Golf by Mark Frost , which sounds so interesting that I might read it too.

What I especially liked (other than supporting the local library) is that for $6 we got books priced by the publishers for a total of $83.96!

I did resist the regular bookstores, although I noted where they were!

A Financially wise vacation, I see ;p

How did you resist! I would have to, at least, walk in there and torture myself, ha ha ha

Not to worry...we are planning to move to the area next year...provided our house up here sells. So I will have another chance at those bookstores!

Must be something going 'round ... I just got 3 I had already read but "needed" physical copies of!

message 35: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9035 comments Mod
LOL - I'm glad that I'm not the only one who needed physical copies of books I've read! The question is do you re-read? When; as soon as you got it or few years down the track?

message 36: by Robert (new)

Robert Jones | 19 comments I very rarely re-read anything. I should but there's always something new that tempts me and get my attention.

message 37: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9035 comments Mod
I'm pretty much the same... though there are times when I just couldn't resist and that's usually because the movie's coming out or right after seeing the movie, etc...

I have a couple of friends who annually re-read their fave classics!

message 38: by Bea (new)

Bea | 5314 comments Mod
I do not re-read on purpose. I have occasionally picked up a book to start and about 10 pages in start thinking "this is familiar". Sure enough, I will find that I have read it before.

I usually read mysteries, so re-reads are no fun as my memory for the story (once recalled) ruins the mystery!

message 39: by Alexa (new)

Alexa (alexbm9) For me is like descovering more and more about the characters. Occasionally or on purpose. You can do whatever you want with books. Even though those voices might still be the same, they might tell you new things about yourself through the years. It's an exchange of ideas, isn't it?

It is, indeed, Alex, I usually found something different is highlighted in a re-read for me. It's why books are gifts that keep on giving, isn't it :)

message 41: by Alexa (new)

Alexa (alexbm9) True. Very true ;)
