I'm actually feeling really crappy today. My son has had fever for nearly a week -either a very bad flu or some viral thingy and reckon, I caught it :(
So what did I do? Stopped by St. Vinnies whilst I went grocery shopping and spent $11 on the following

Wow, Tien - those are some great books. I have Freedom to read myself, and Gone Girl is one of my best books from last year.
I know, St. Vinnies is a treasure trove! I mean there are a few others I'd buy but these titles are so above all the others, ya know, so I limited myself to these :)
so happy :D
so happy :D
The Man Booker Long list is out and one of the books, The Kills is basically 4 books in 1. There is this offer for getting the first book (electronic version) for "free" : Pay with a Tweet.
I, of course, had just taken up the above offer :)

Thanks, Julia. I'm feeling slightly better today though my husband has just picked it up :( -a vicious circle!
Tor.com is offering free ebook: a collection of stories of last 5 years in celebration of their birthday. You'd have to register on their site, if you aren't a member yet. check it out here
Hope you an your son are improving. Would love to hear what you think of Freedom. This book stayed with me for a while before I had a real opinion of it.
Thanks, Lisa. Not sure when I'd get to it though considering the considerable number of books I seemed to have accumulate the last 12months
I went out to a local Historic Site yesterday and picked up the following
and
from their gift shop. MY BF, Mother nephew and I love day-tripping and I think we'll get plenty of use out of these.
While on vacation last week in South Carolina, I could not resist going to the local library and checking their for sale shelves. Came home with
and
- both like-new hardcovers. My husband picked up
, which sounds so interesting that I might read it too.
What I especially liked (other than supporting the local library) is that for $6 we got books priced by the publishers for a total of $83.96!
I did resist the regular bookstores, although I noted where they were!

A Financially wise vacation, I see ;p
How did you resist! I would have to, at least, walk in there and torture myself, ha ha ha

Not to worry...we are planning to move to the area next year...provided our house up here sells. So I will have another chance at those bookstores!

I have been buying a few too many books lately (at least that is what my husband says). Here are the most recent additions...

Despite the fact that I'm supposed to be saving money I've bought 14 books in the last week. To make it worse I had already read 8 of them but decided that I needed physical copies of them.
The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution
The God Delusion
The Magic of Reality: How We Know What's Really True
The Selfish Gene
Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void
Bad Science
The Alan Turing: Enigma
Robert Oppenheimer: A Life Inside the Center
Jeffanory: Stories from Beyond the Videprinter. by Jeff Stelling
and waiting to be read -
Power, Sex, Suicide: Mitochondria and the Meaning of Life
Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe, 1944-1956
Lost At Sea: The Jon Ronson Mysteries
The Great Tax Robbery: How Britain Became a Tax Haven for Fat Cats and Big Business
The World Until Yesterday: What Can We Learn from Traditional Societies?
Yep all NF. Is it really bad if I say I bought another five books today? Two of which I have already read. Today's purchases -
The Light Between Oceans
David Attenborough's Life on Air: Memoirs of a Broadcaster
The Man Who Broke Into Auschwitz: A True Story of World War II
The Orpheus Descent
A More Perfect Heaven: How Copernicus Revolutionised the Cosmos

LOL - I'm glad that I'm not the only one who needed physical copies of books I've read! The question is do you re-read? When; as soon as you got it or few years down the track?
I very rarely re-read anything. I should but there's always something new that tempts me and get my attention.
I'm pretty much the same... though there are times when I just couldn't resist and that's usually because the movie's coming out or right after seeing the movie, etc...
I have a couple of friends who annually re-read their fave classics!

I do not re-read on purpose. I have occasionally picked up a book to start and about 10 pages in start thinking "this is familiar". Sure enough, I will find that I have read it before.
I usually read mysteries, so re-reads are no fun as my memory for the story (once recalled) ruins the mystery!

For me is like descovering more and more about the characters. Occasionally or on purpose. You can do whatever you want with books. Even though those voices might still be the same, they might tell you new things about yourself through the years. It's an exchange of ideas, isn't it?

It is, indeed, Alex, I usually found something different is highlighted in a re-read for me. It's why books are gifts that keep on giving, isn't it :)
