Thinking of reading From Hell when I'm done with "100 Bullets", and I'm wondering how much else both fiction and nonfiction about the Ripper deserves a look. Portrait Of A Killer: Jack The Ripper -- Case Closed by Patricia Cornwell might be the best known and most controversial, most of the views on GR are extremely negative.

It's not really about Jack the Ripper but A Night in the Lonesome October features Jack and is narrated by his dog.
The first book I read about the Ripper was recommend by Harlan Ellison When London Walked In Terror. It's very good but written in 1965.
Ellison & (maybe Bloch) wrote a few short stories about Jack at the end of time or something like that. Very good. I think it was in Partners in Wonder.
thanks for the recs, I didn't know there were that many science-fiction/fantasy takes on the Ripper's legend
GR has a lot of lists including one for 'popular Jack the Ripper' books here:http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/j...
Dennis wrote: "I remember now, Jim. I read them in Dangerous Visions back when I was in high school."Me too, so it could have been that rather than "Partners in Wonder". Looks like we have another favorite in common, Silverlock. That's a classic rewrite of the Odyssey that seems to have fallen off most people's radar. Comparing our ratings & doing the book compatibility test was interesting, too.
Allow me to be self-indulgent, but Tales of Jack the Ripper has been getting some pretty favorable reviews, and showcases a wide variety of takes on murderer(s?), victims, and the situation in general.
