historical accuracy?

I enjoyed reading about the Canadian frontier and the Cree culture/ language in "Mrs. Mike", but I don't know enough to notice inaccuracies. Any scholars want to share their knowledge of the era?

Good question - there were a few reviews from people who knew a bit about it or lived in the area.
I read this book many years ago, it was my favorite for year. I just recently re-read it. Not knowing that much about the local history, so could not pick out the inaccuracies. It is still among my favorites.
It's a damn fine story, so if there are any, it wouldn't stop me from reading it again. I finished re-reading this not long ago. I think it was the fifth time I'd read it.
There is a sequel as well. What did everyone else think of it?

A 1947 critique of the book Mrs. Mike from a Royal Canadian Mounted Police stationed in Grouard, where the story is set:
"A 1947 review of Mrs. Mike by RCMP member C.D. LaNauze, stationed in Grouard at the time of the story, noted a number of discrepancies. A journey allegedly requiring "weeks on the trail" was actually an "easy five-day journey", according to LaNauze; there was no diphtheria epidemic (and Grouard was served by a doctor at the time), and confirmed bachelor George Adams (not a Michael Flannigan) as the RCMP sergeant. LaNauze said, "Nothing in [the book] even approaches the truth".
(cite news-last=LaNauze-first=C.D-title=Mrs. Mike-newspaper=Lethbridge Herald-date=29 November 1947-quote=reprinted from the Royal Mounted Police)
Flannigan provided the authors with a 5-page outline of her story and personal interviews, so she felt she was owed some of the book and movie earnings. She sued the movie producers and authors for $25,000; the suit was dismissed because she had a legal claim only against the authors, not the producers.[9] Wikipedia
Flannigan then wrote The Faith of Mrs. Kelleen, which was set in 1880s Ireland and based on the story of her great-aunt."

I wish there was more information on the accuracy of the book. Given C.D. LaNauze's review, is there doubt that a Sgt. Mike Flannigan existed? Is George Adams "Mike"? Did Katherine Mary marry a Mountie and live in the north country?
