Okay, okay,

I'm making an appearance! Yay! Sorry about not participating in the last while... my life has been incredibly hectic and stressful and I've honestly had a really rough few months. Some things just need to be put aside and priorities need to be made. I'm hoping that now that it's the end of July the rest of the year will be more fruitful :)

So, as it turns out, I have to do some travelling and I'll be on a plane for a bit. I'm wondering what books I should load onto my e-reader that will carry me away from lack of leg room, recycled air and possible weirdos sitting next to me on the plane.

What are your favourite travel reads?

Hey Rose! Glad to have you back! I hope things are looking up for you! :)

My favorite travel reads have always been of other cultures and lands and hopefully a book that has a setting in the place I am visiting. I love reading books that just take me away.

Anything by
Jodi Picoult always took me to what it was like to live on the east coast. The Joy Luck Club took me between past and present, showing me both China and California through the years. I also enjoy Jhumpa Lahiri books as well. Tracy Chevalier wrote books that I love because I became more familiar with the objects she wrote about, a good historical history writer. Just a few suggestions.

Ashley (icecheeseplease) Whenever I'm traveling I tend towards a "light read." Something that is interesting but simple so that you can put it down and pick it back up easily and still know what's going on. I don't have any titles in mind but maybe something ya or a mystery?

Maybe some background information will help in this decision making process!

I'm carrying an e-reader only.

My flights both ways are approximately 4 hours long and I'll have some brief periods of down time mostly in the back seat of a vehicle.

This is a business trip, and not entirely for pleasure.

I lean towards the fiction side of things and I don't want anything too heavy that will make me weep and drown a plane in my sorrows.

I guess I don't want any books that are too long either, but short, sweet and possibly humorous!

Ashley (icecheeseplease) Ahh I have this series...It's my guilty pleasure because there's not a whole lot to them depth-wise but they are HILARIOUS. Maybe give them a look? The Emily series by Katie Maxwell

Aaron (aaronreadabook) Last time I took a long flight I read 'Travels With My Aunt by Graham Greene' it's a funny read. Perfect for travel.

Autobiographies, especially comedic ones, are fine! I don't mind non-fiction, but it's harder to pick up during travel!

Jennifer | 185 comments I agree with bringing a book that is a little easier to put down. I read Reading Lolita in Tehran on my last trip, and it was fabulous! I would also recommend something like Me Talk Pretty One Day or Dress Your Family in Courderoy and Denim by David Sedaris. Non-fiction, humorous (laugh-out-loud), and written in little vignettes that would break uo nicely for travel.

Thanks for the suggestions! These are all really great :)

My favourite thing to do on a plane is essentially sleep through it, or read. Basically anything that can distract me from my neighbours! Haha.
