Just combining them and then you can follow the instructions here to make the new edition Primary. Primary means that the edition you choose will show first on searches.

I did all the steps in the instructions this morning, but the image still hasn't changed. In fact, when I just tried to do it again, the new image is no longer showing as an edition option. :(

Ooops, sorry. The option is there, but still hasn't changed. The notification said it shouldn't take longer than ten minutes to show up. Am I doing something wrong?

i think you may think that the old cover is going to be removed, the old cover will not be removed
but, when our book is searched the new cover will show, rather than the old.

If changes made or a new book or edition added to goodreads database, it can take up to 10 minutes to be searchable on goodreads.

Other changes, particulalry anything that needs a thumbnail to display or update can take 10 minutes to 72 hours for cache to refresh on every feature of goodreads (particularly slow are thumbnails on series info on author page, the default image that displays in search results, default image that displays on author page, exploring by genre, etc.).
