I did five giveaways. I mailed them out and never heard a thing about them. Is that normal? It's my first time doing this.

I did my 1st giveaway of 3 books, and 1 of those readers left a review for me. I am now doing my 2nd one. Hopefully at least 1 of them will also leave a review.

I have heard a suggestion that when books are mailed to giveaway winners, that the author may want to write a note with the book to ask that they give a review after reading the book. Maybe try that?

Hello Carol: I have never posted here before but feel compelled to do so now. DO NOT be discouraged. Not receiving reviews is very normal. A zillion people sign up for goodreads giveaways with nary a thought of writing a review--it's all about a free book. I'm a three-time published author and give review copies away all the time: radio, TV, online review sites, blogs, etc. I write these people over and over and over again reminding them to send their review. What do I get? Silence. With goodreads be happy if 10 percent post a review. With freebies on kindle it's less than 5 percent. With professional reviewers, oh I don't know how many reviews I get. Darn few, I tell you!

And don't think it has to do with the quality of your book. I have excellent reviews (what reviews I have) on all three books. My point is: People will tell you that you don't get reviews because reviewers go silent when they don't want to leave a bad review. That can be true. But more often than not they're just busy or forgetful. The rest never intended to write a review in the first place even though they requested a free copy.

But never stop trying. Like all marketing quests, the numbers are with you if you don't quit. People who send marketing fliers through the mail will tell you that you have to hit at least 100 homes with a flier to get even three people to show any interest.
