Kristen | 1179 comments XKCD is a webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language. You can start reading it here.

Here's a sample:

Kayleigh | 195 comments I've been meaning to get back into this one; guess I have my motivation now :)

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) By the by, that example comic is true. Very very true.

Make sure to read the alt text everyone!

I love XKCD. It's one of the few comics I still check like clockwork. It's not uncommon for me not to get a particular strip (I'm nowhere near as smart as Randall) but on average it really appeals to my nerdy sense of humor. It also covers a huge variety of topics, and the art is amazingly effective for a "stick figure comic."

They published a "greatest hits" compilation, xkcd: volume 0, which I reviewed here if anyone's interested.

Yes! Often as funny (or more) than the comic itself.

XKCD doesn't really lend itself to discussion questions, so if anyone comes across a particular comic they really like or want to discuss please share them. :)

Kristen | 1179 comments XKCD is a bit too science and computer oriented for my tastes. They're not really topics I'm interested in or understand. I can kind of understand the surface of some of the jokes, but I always have a sense that there's just something that I don't get.

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) My favorite is definitely the Tech Support Cheat Sheet (http://xkcd.com/627/). I have printed this and given it to my grandparents. XD

I also enjoy the Tic-Tac-Toe Explained (http://xkcd.com/832/)

Always loved that one. My favorite of the flowcharts is http://xkcd.com/851/.

The ones where the concept is completely off the wall always make me laugh, like http://xkcd.com/1001/, and he has a knack for horrible but hilarious stuff like http://xkcd.com/945/.

Can totally see that. I'm a complete math and science person and a lot of the stuff goes past me. But I really enjoy the stuff I do get so I keep reading.

Kristen | 1179 comments I do enjoy some of the less complicated ones, particularly anything with a chart in it. Fake charts are hilarious in general. I found this one earlier and I thought it was really funny:

I also love fake charts. One of the reasons I read Surviving the World for a while - he does a lot of them too.

That comic is a classic. Everyone I know that's played the game gets a big laugh out of it. :)

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) I also really liked this one:

Useless (http://xkcd.com/55/)

I once saw it on a T-shirt and was sorely tempted to buy it...

I used to have that t-shirt.

Kristen | 1179 comments I saw a wedding cake with that one on it:

That's awesome!

Nicole (radiantserenechaos) | 11 comments While searching for an assignment in my stats textbook, I found this comic in it. I've read some of Xkcd before, so I was quite shocked and amused to see a webcomic turn up in a textbook. Most of the comics go over my head, so I don't routinely read Xkcd. But then I'll randomly come across one in the most unexpected place (like my textbooks, apparently) and decided to read a few more, and then find a few more gems.

These are a few of my favorites I've found:
http://xkcd.com/840/
http://xkcd.com/336/

It gets absurdly technical sometimes, but Randal has a fantastic way of looking at things sideways that makes xkcd really hilarious sometimes.

That's a great strip in your textbook. I think some of my friends have seen a few come up in their comp sci classes too. I remember laughing out loud at the alphabetical order one when I first read it.

Today's is amusing and something a bit different for xkcd:
http://xkcd.com/1336/

Mary Catelli | 990 comments Favorite? I don't know, but this is the most powerful xkcd:

This one, on the other hand, I do definitely like:

That's cool that you found one in a textbook. The writer must have been a fan or something. I always love it when there are comics in textbooks: it gives me something to do while I'm no paying attention in class. Calvin and Hobbes seems to pop up a lot...

Yeah, Calvin and Hobbes and Penuts pop up a lot. Finding something different and that's more recent was a pleasant surprise.
