Please let us know if you're reading, planning to read, or have read Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey.

No spoilers in this topic please!

Random (rand0m1s) | 1295 comments I read this last July. I'm not going to reread it again, but I'll jump in on the discussion.

I enjoyed the book, though I haven't gotten around to reading the second one yet.

Pickle | 203 comments im looking forward to reading this for the first time as it has such a high rating but im going to re-read Un Lun Dun first as i will get through it quickly.

carol. | 173 comments I'm grabbing it from the library today. Look forward to it.

I've had this one and its sequel on my TBR shelf since they were originally released. Maybe I'll finally get around to them this month. I believe I may be one of the only fantasy fans left who has never read anything by Daniel Abraham (who is one half of James S.A. Corey).

Heidi Draffin (tarsier) I've read Leviathan Wakes, and Caliban's War and am happy to report that they are worth your time. Both can stand alone. They present you with layers of mystery that you can peel with satisfaction as you go along. There are characters that are compelling and the authors paint with imagery that lingers. As you step out into LW, you know with some certainty that you are in for an adventure. I'll re-read along with you.

Beth (beth95) I've started! Just a few chapters under my belt, but fairly gripping stuff thus far.

seak | 2 comments Been meaning to read this one for a while. I loved Abraham's Long Price Quartet so that made him an instant pick up for anything he publishes.

Sandra (sleo) | 1141 comments +I'm very reluctant to put it down. I had no idea about the different nom de plumes for Abraham. If it keeps up at this quality I may have to give his fantasy a try.

carol. | 173 comments It sucked me in! I just started and could not stop. Not at all what I expected.

message 15: by Jon (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jon (jonmoss) I read this two years ago for another book club here at GoodReads. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Problem here is purely philosophical.

What is this book only out as a 20 dollar trade paperback? Its been out for a couple of years yet no Mass Market?

It's gone on sale at least 3 or 4 times for $1.99 on kindle. Plus it contains The Dragon's Path. I realized my folly with the second book though because now they got me. :)

Sandra (sleo) | 1141 comments 9.99 on my Nook, 12.98 in paperback. Also available in audio.

carol. | 173 comments Mine was ordered from the library :)

Ken (ogi8745) | 1461 comments Dislike audio....Personally don't consider audio actual reading.
Not an ebook guy. I have over 1000 books sitting on shelves waiting to be read. I have thought about picking up an ereader (almost bought one today) but I keep thinking back to the tons of books on my shelf and turn around and not buy.

Random (rand0m1s) | 1295 comments You don't have to spend money on an eReader. I just use my phone. :)

message 23: by Ken (new) - added it

Ken (ogi8745) | 1461 comments Ha, yeah there is that.
BTW, I do have an ereader on my phone and have some stuff on there for emergency purposes.

My eyes are terrible...I think thats why I have been having touble finishing Deadhouse Gates. I need the words big and my phone screen is just to small.

Jenny (jennyc89) | 127 comments I loved Leviathan Wakes and I've continued on with all the sequels & short stories. It's a great space opera (I would define it as one) with interesting characters. In my opinion it's a must read!

I originally bought this in the combo The Dragon's Path/Leviathan Wakes ebook, but didn't really like the ebook experience because of how long it is. It felt like it was taking forever to make progress on one percent, plus the beginning third was a little slow. The last third is really exciting and rewarding.

I've since picked up the paperback versions for books two and three and they are beautiful products, well worth the price, though I'm afraid to bring them with me to work for fear of wearing them down.

I'm noticing a theme (don't worry, not a spoiler) in the next book about the author highlighting human stupidity. Anyone else noticing that in Leviathan Wakes? What do you think about that? It sort of creates a light hearted feel, a little, that would be different, say, than a Walking Dead type story where it points out humanity's dark side. This series seems to say, people aren't evil, they're just stupid some times, and that creates problems we don't want to have to deal with, but the honorable do anyway.

Maddalena | 7 comments I read this last year and enjoyed it very much: space opera of the classic kind, but with a very "modern" feel.
One of the details I liked most was how the author(s) describe the future, how it's not all easy and super-technological: there are drawbacks to life in space, or prices to be paid. It made the story and background feel real.
Reading Abaddon's Gate right now, and the story is still compelling.

Pickle | 203 comments im currently flying through this book... 168 pages in and im loving it. Its a bit different to other space opera's ive read.. there certainly isnt the myriad of character's and plots, which im really liking.

Sandra (sleo) | 1141 comments I really enjoyed it and have read #2.

message 29: by Chip (new) - rated it 5 stars

Chip (compuchip) I've read all 3 of them and thought it was a very fun read and am planning on jumping in on at least some of the discussion :)

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) I read this one and the next one in the series - very happy to have done so! I thought it an excellent series.

Janny (jannywurts) | 1006 comments Finished, and enjoyed it a great deal. The writing was tremendously economical - a lot shoved into the cracks between the action, which made it very fast paced and well fleshed out all at the same time.

im not yet finished but with 100 pages to go ive really enjoyed it. Looking forward to a spoilers thread

Andreas Just starting with it. It took 80 pages to catch me. Probably because I don't like detective/mystery stories.

It is refreshing to have a simple story line - a break from those interleaving myriads of story threads which some books bring up.
2-3 stars, so far, tending towards 3.

Daniel (dward526) read this one 2 years ago, and am about to read for September (I have very recently read both red shirts and the ocean at the end of the lane). I am looking forward to reading this again.

Andreas I didn't know that Corey is just a pen name for Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, both collaborating with GRRM.

So, I fully expect that some main protagonists will die. Most probably all.

And really... vomit zombies? Really?
