A bit confused and angry, but ok.
I've also got some problems at work, but we'll talk about them another time: I hope to solve them soon!!

Hi everyone! I'm glad to see so many new members :-) I'll be back on Wednesday to chat with you all - I am at work today and then I am going away to my boyfriend's straight after work. I hope everyone is having a grear week so far!

I did indeed enjoy the sunshine for a while, and started listening to Master and Commander for our Theme Read about the sea.

Hi Leslie, yes, Cricket is not played on your side of the sea is it? Basically The Ashes are England vs Australia in a 5 game series and we went 3-0 up today!

Glad to hear that, we had some sunshine here too today. The film of Master and Commander is a favourite of mine, never read the books though. Let me know how you get on.

I'm quite ok. I'm having some problems at work, but in two days I'll be off to the seaside for three weeks and in september I've been promised a change of office; we'll see.
Happily I have this new group to chit chat a bit and yell out if you need it!!!!

Actually, there was an intermural cricket team (and a rugby team as well) at my college's brother school (I went to an all-woman's college but it was affiliated with an all-male college one mile away).

Gosh, I totally DO NOT UNDERSTAND cricket! I was in London during the first test, and my future boss was busy checking updates all week long. And then at night everybody in pubs and restaurants was talking about cricket. I really have to invest time in trying to figure out the rules...

I will admit that there are some parts of cricket that are hard to understand but I love it, most people (i.e. Men) find this strange as I am not male, but its just one of the many odd things about me! That is interesting Leslie, I never knew cricket had reached America!

I think it was a concession to the students from overseas :P. Mostly British or from former British colonies (such as India and parts of Africa). All I really remember about it is sitting in the sunshine drinking beer while these guys in nice white clothes played some incomprehensible game ;)

Well that sound wonderful to me Leslie. Only 8 countries in the world play first class cricket but it is growing.

Well I went to an all-girls school and we played cricket during the summer. I hated it because the cricket pitch was a long way from the school and we had to cross the boys' playing fields to get there. Jeers and cheers at all of us in our navy knickers and shin pads. No shorts allowed, only track suits if it snowed. In some ways it was a very strange school.....

I went out to the cinema tonight, to see the Alan Partridge Film. If you're a fan of the series, it's a must see! Very funny.

I'm trying to get my blog up and running :) I'm also sleepy, but can't sleep.

How is everyone else doing?

I'm really fine! Today it's my last day of work, then I have my three wekks at the seaside - my beloved Sardinia!!!!!

Enjoy your holiday, Laura! I've been very busy recently, moved house and started a new job. I'm currently working in a GP surgery and up until now I've just been observing clinics to get a feel for it. Tomorrow I have my first patients in my own clinic which I'm quite nervous about but I'm also looking forward to it. Just about got settled in to the new house, just one more set of shelves to build and the Internet to install on Saturday.

Good luck then Heather, or as we say in Italy: "In bocca al lupo!" - and you have to answer "Crepi il lupo"

I'm enjoying it, Leslie. I've moved from a town to a city and I live much closer to the amenities now. It's so nice to be able to walk to the supermarket, restaurants and the pub whereas last year I was a 45minute walk from the town! I live in Hull now which has the worlds first 'subquarium'. We visited last weekend. It's basically a huge aquarium but its been built into the Humber Estuary so parts if the building are underwater. It doesn't change much inside really but the exhibitions were excellent.

welcome to Hull Heather :-) it is a wonderful place full of old and new huge history from William Wilberforce and the slave trade through Amy Johnson the aviator and the fishing industry that was so important to our city and great new things like The deep and our gorgeous bridge. I hope you enjoy your new home. x

Is that where you're from, Tracey? I have to admit I was very impressed by The Deep and the Old Town. I do love the Humber bridge. Walking across it is one if my planned bank holiday activities!

Hull sounds interesting & the subquarium awesome! I like aquariums, and they are so much better now than when I was growing up.

Yes Hull born and bred. I forget to mention the Whaling industry but there is so much of interest here. Hull was one of the most bombed places in ww2 but it was only ever mentioned in the news as 'A northern city! probably due to the fact it was a port and a gateway to europe ohh yes and the ferries Heather. I love my city :)

Went to see the film of 'Springsteen and I' last night. Great film. Second only to seeing the Boss live!

I think Springsteen was the single most popular singer/band at my college back in the early 80s but there were a lot of New Jersey folks:P I was more into British rock (The Who, The Stones, The English Beat, The Clash...)

Has anyone else noticed that the format of the book page is different? The 'Similar Books' are now where the 'Other Editions' used to be... not sure I like it, as I often use the 'Other Editions' feature.

Wow, lots of positive recommendations for hull! So far, all seems good. I'd love to go to a Hull football game this season and although I know nothing about Rugby League, is be interested in going to a natch. In only here for a year so lots to fit in. I live round the avenues so looking forward to plenty of nights out and nice meals over the year!

I've just come back from a long weekend in a yurt in Dorset. Sooooo relaxing but had to do my reading by torchlight due to lack of task lamps! Now back at work, still, it's nice to have had a little holiday. :)
