I first read this story a couple of months ago and I couldn't stop thinking about it. The father is such an amazing character - such a black hearted , jealous, destructive man.

Hilary | 2082 comments Great story. I don't think I've read anything by William Faulkner but I will have a look in future. I think he's the 1920/30s era but I don't know how I know that! Google here I come.

Glad you liked it Hilary I just love the scene where the father stamps though the mud and manure right on to the bosses white rug - just to show, I suppose, that he doesn't feel at all in awe of him.

Dave (charon27) I have just finished In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin. It is a great read and would recommend it to all who love modern history
