Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Please read this post and all other posts before nominating a book!

Where does the time go?! It's once again time for nominations. Let's see what we can do to keep the process smooth. Please no Young Adult books, so check to see how books are shelved. We go by how the good folk at Goodreads shelve the books. If the first or second largest number of shelves is categorized as YA, then the book will be considered as YA and thus not eligible for our group read.

As usual, books must be seconded. You must link the book so that group members can check it out. Also, if you would describe the book a little and tell us why you nominated it, it would be helpful.

Books must be available in a variety of formats and in a number of countries.

And Duh! Authors may not nominate their own books.

I will close nominations after 12 books are nominated and seconded, and as usual, I will close the group to new members during the voting process.

Please check the group book shelf to see what we've already read. Also check our sister group as most of us are members of both groups.

You need to post the TITLE, not just the cover. People using tablets and smart phones can't read it.

I nominate Kafka on the ShoreKafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami
heard a lot of good things about it and I liked 1Q84.

message 5: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Drinkard I'll nominate Gene Wolfe's classic: "Shadow of the Torturer."

message 6: by Maria (new)

Maria How about this one?
The Ill-Made Mute

message 7: by Tgriffmt (new)

Tgriffmt keep it going with Emperor of Thorns

message 8: by DeAnn (new)

DeAnn I second the recommendation of the Ill-Made Mute, because that was the best book of that series, IMHO, and I read all three or four, I can't remember how many there were in the series. I just remember loving the first two and being not too happy with the final book.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 772 comments A prequel for the Riyria Revelations just came out as #1 in the Riyria Chronicles. So, it is #1 in the series. I don't think that violates the rules so unless it is I'll nominate:

The Crown Tower

I liked the series it, precedes.

message 12: by Travis (new)

Travis Luedke (twluedke) I nominate any of the Dresden Files novels by Jim Butcher. They are all good, every one of them.

It is more contemporary fantasy, or even urban fantasy, but still very much fantasy.

message 13: by carol. (last edited Aug 17, 2013 08:40PM) (new)

carol. The Killing Moon came close last time, so I'll suggest it again. Annnd, since last month, it was nominated for the World Fantasy Award 2013. Unusual fantasy with some magic exercised by dreaming, loosely based on Egyptian culture.

message 14: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Flesh and Spirit by Carol Berg
Interesting characters and magic system!

I didn't see anything by Carol Berg on the bookshelf...Hope I didn't miss it. If I did apologies!

message 15: by Gregory (new)

Gregory I'll third The Crown Tower, it was an awesome prequel that works great as a stand alone.

message 16: by Brandybuck (new)

Brandybuck I'll nominate Hard Magic by Larry Correia.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Correia's Monster Hunter International when it was nominated back in June, so much so that I immediately purchased and read the entire series (at least what has thus far been released). Now I'm eager to start Correia's Grimnoir Chronicles, Hard Magic being the first book in that series.

message 17: by Bill (new)

Bill Blume | 29 comments I will definitely second The Killing Moon!
