* BOY'S LIFE
* USHER'S PASSING
* STINGER
* SWAN SONG
* THE NIGHT BOAT
(need a re-read of THEY THIRST, and WOLF'S HOUR)
Why? Read anything of his, and come back and ask this question--LOL!

BOY"S LIFE seems to be a consistent contender for the overall #1 position at this point....
1. Swan Song -- Epic and engrossing. Blew my mind.
2. Boys Life -- The magic of childhood in a world where all things, real and legend, exist.
3. Usher's Passing -- American Gothic horror at its finest.
I have only completed five of McCammon's books, so I'm going to stop at the top three. The Wolf's Hour and Mine were both very good, but I think these first three stand well above those two.

I forgot MYSTERY WALK! That one was great, but one of the few I don't have a copy of! I need to re-read THE WOLF'S HOUR, and that one.
As much as I love them all, Boy's Life still remains at the top. I've never read a book that spoke to me like that one did---it evoked being a kid like no other book I've read, and it was full of humor, drama, and so many real-life moments. As a blogger recently wrote about Boy's Life (paraphrased), if Boy's Life lasted forever, I would read it forever.
Speaks the Nightbird runs a very close second for me. It has many of the same qualities of Boy's Life, even though it's set almost 300 years earlier.
They Thirst was my first McCammon, way back in '81. When I read Mystery Walk, I knew that They Thirst was no fluke: this McCammon guy was good!
I've said it elsewhere, but reading McCammon has spoiled me, as very few authors even come close, IMO.

The Wolf's Hour. It was the first McCammon book I read. I loved his crossing of two of my favorite genres. In fact, I give recognition to The Wolf's Hour for being the inspiration behind my first novel. That's how much I love it.
Nice! Have you read the collection about Michael Gallatin, Michael? The Hunter from the Woods?It, too, was excellent. :)

The Hunter From The Woods and I Travel By Night are definitely at the top of my list to read.
Charlene wrote: "Ooooh, those are BOTH excellent! :)"I have no doubt. I've only heard good things about them. I am especially excited about I Travel By Night, western/horror is one of my favorite cross genres and a hoot to write.
It's like a western, but it's set in Louisiana, which is weird, but it worked for me. If you enjoy western/horror I would highly recommend Skin Medicine. It was a total blast!

Oooh. Yes, I might give that a try. Thanks for the recommendation.
Swan Song.That was my introduction to Mr.McCammon's writing. My sister worked at a resort one summer. I stayed with her for several days and she bought Swan Song for me from the bookstore in their gift shop as something to keep me occupied. I was in 7th grade at the time. I'd never read anything that I was able to visualize so well before. I read it again when I was in high school, then when pregnant with my first child, and once more after that.
Hi Rebecca! It's nice to hear about people's memories in regards to Robert McCammon's books. Thanks for sharing with us.

Charlene wrote: "LOL Joanne ! I know what you're saying!"guess I should just have listed them all :)
My favorite is Swan Song. It's the first McCammon book I read and I couldn't put it down. Although any book of his is on my favorites list.
I thought it would be okay to link my blog post here. It's a post about Mr. McCammon and why I love his work. http://charlene.booklikes.com/post/75...-
