Katherine was a very chippy and bubbly person. Her sarcasm was entertaining to those around her which made it easier on her part. Altough, as things got harder and more confusing Kat became more closed off, distant, quiet, kept to herself.

Katherine grew up with her father. No siblings. No annoying aunts and drunken uncles. Nagging grandmothers. Just always her and her father. And Daddys little girl she was.

Katherine and her father always went on trips and on vacations but that didn't matter as long as they were together that was what mattered. Katherines mom was never around. Kats father said she was beautiful , smart, funny and looked a lot like Kat. Her dad said she went to heaven and Kat didn't dare ask anymore questions. She saw how sad and how slightly reluctant he got about talking about her. Who knew he ment literally.

Katherine was 11 when she began to notice changes in herself. Her back began to ach, her hair grew faster than others and she never seemed to stop growing. She was 5'6 at 12. Katherines features became sharper and her eyes lighter. She was changing more than normal girls should and it freaked her out. To top it, she would wake up with white feathers in her bed. Unnatural feathers, three times the size of her hands. Katherine didn't dare talk to her father about it so she shut him out completely.

Katherine avoided lots of things with her father and just in general. She became home schooled, never went on vacation with her father because, 'she was too old for that' and she stopped going out with friends. Lots of them would point out changes in her that would happen over night and she didn't want to have to explain. How could you make someone understand something when you didn't understand yourself?

Kat began to search online to find out what she was, and unnatural and impossible things would pop up and Katherine didn't dare believe it. Soon enough, Kat mustered up the courage to look through her dads old stuff. Never once did she find a picture of her mother but as if out of no where a letter sat on her bed. It was from Kats mother. It told her everything she needed to know and as much as she didn't want to believe it, what else could she do to explain all this?

Katherines mother talked about a school that she suggested Kat to go to. In the letter it read,

"If you can see it, you belong there."

Without hesitation Kat bagged all her things and was out at midnight. She loved her father dearly, but she didn't belong there anymore. When Kat made it to the school, clearly seeing it, she couldn't help but be afraid. But remembering her mothers last words, gave Katherine the strength to walk up the steps to Elysium.
