I used the previous three books in the (The Selection) series for my trilogy week so I'd like to make sure that I finish out the series while it's still fresh in my mind.

Hopefully this one has a love triangle like the original storyline did! If not, I'll rearrange my plan (yet again)

"Princess Eadlyn has grown up hearing endless stories about how her mother and father met. Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won the heart of Prince Maxon—and they lived happily ever after. Eadlyn has always found their fairy-tale story romantic, but she has no interest in trying to repeat it. If it were up to her, she'd put off marriage for as long as possible.

But a princess's life is never entirely her own, and Eadlyn can't escape her very own Selection—no matter how fervently she protests.

Eadlyn doesn't expect her story to end in romance. But as the competition begins, one entry may just capture Eadlyn's heart, showing her all the possibilities that lie in front of her . . . and proving that finding her own happily ever after isn't as impossible as she's always thought."

I'm only a little ways in but I'm not liking the new main character. It seems like she's just lazy and doesn't want to do any work at all. She complains about doing political work but then also complains about doing The Selection.

I can't help but worry that this will be tied to my preferences around The Bachelor. It's always been a guilty pleasure of mine but I tend to lose interest in the Bachelorette. There's just something that makes it less interesting to me...

Samantha | 122 comments I enjoyed the selection and think it was also driven by my guilty pleasure in watching the Bachelor.

I am still looking for a love triangle, let us know if this gets any better and I might choose it as well.

As far as bachelor related guilty pleasures have you tried watching Unreal - super funny fictional behind the scenes of a bachelor type show.

That's my mistake, I posted my review on my reading plan and totally forgot to mention it here.

But I really didn't like it. It was nice to see what was going on with the world and the characters from the previous trilogy. But the daughter is very unlikeable. She does grow a little in the book so that may improve since the writer is making it into a second trilogy. It was definitely more just The Bachelor than a dystopian like The Selection.

I actually had never heard of Unreal until yesterday. I saw a news article about the producer because I guess she was a producer on The Bachelor 10 years ago. But I'll definitely have to check it out!

Samantha | 122 comments Oh my! I think there is something about the overall summery and a few other reviews that have made me wonder how I would feel about the new main character.

I feel like I would like the know what happens but not sure how much effort i want to put into so might listen to this on audio.

I will continue to hunt for another love triangle.

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) Hey, I'm starting this soon! I hated the previous two sequels, but this one has been raved about so much that I felt I had to read it. :) Let's hope it's a little better.

Samantha | 122 comments I ended up listening to this rather than reading. I totally agree that the daughter was unlikeable for most of the book. Interestingly it seems like that was on purpose. Totally agree that if there are more books she was heading in a new directions and could see her being a more compelling character as the story evolves.

I too really like to see where everyone for the earlier books was at and at times wished they gave us more :)

Katie (ktmac_1) I enjoyed this one but mainly because of the suitors. They all have secrets and are hiding things. Have no idea who Eadlyn will choose, unlike the original trilogy. You knew who America would end up with from the first book.

I thought the same thing about this book. The main character was SO unlikable and hard to relate to. I enjoyed the first trilogy but wouldn't read more in this series.
