I Love My Mummy: they haven't got the book on her for some reason...http://www.amazon.co.uk/Love-Mummy-My... heres what it looks like and my review: The little deer wants to go exploringwith his mummy close behind they go on an adventure of the surrounding forest.
This could be used in the classroom for guided reading, independent reading and as stimulus for Mother's day activites and used cross curricularly with geography and art and exploring both verbally, and visually the child's own surround areas. I do beel cautious on suggesting use as a main classroom text as it could become problematic for children who have alternative living situations, however this would also be a good starting point to open discussions on such things, lend itself to writing a home diary about their adventures at home with their guardians. It's a good book for boys and girls alike as it isn't gendered and ventures into an experience both boys and girls can relate to. I'd recommended this for age ranges: KS1 year 2-3 as guided reading. As there aren't many high frequency words that would cause difficulty but will aid their literacy progress. I liked the journey the deer went on, it was fun and cute. I liked that mummy deer was just chilled out behind him letting him lead her through their surrounds and offering help if he wanted it.
