Is there any kind of standard-ish blurb to put out to groups that don't seem to have taken note yet of the whole kerfuffle? (Including the Librarians', from what I saw a little while ago: looked like there were no posts about it.)
This is what I posted in my groups:"Hey everyone!
Since GoodReads has decided that they evidently don't need to make an announcement to members about their new, 180 policy change, I thought I'd post the thread here in case anyone hasn't heard about what's going on.

GR is now banning/deleting-without-warning all shelves/reviews/lists that focus on author behavior. Also, if your shelf isn't related to author behavior, but GR looks at the books on our shelves that decides the shelf is about author behavior, then that shelf will get the ax, too. Because GR can read your mind."
Yeah, I guess you can tell how I felt about the policy. One of my groups has a bunch of commentators who are all for it...>>

Lovely. *copy* Thanks! My brain is fried past putting together a coherent summary at this point.
http://tinyurl.com/bujzjg6 My review of THE TRANSPARENT SOCIETY is up. So is my blood pressure. In the ongoing waiting game @Goodreads is playing, hoping users won't notice a draconian case of surveillance plus censorship, the score is even. They've said nothing and done as they like. We've yelled and hollered, and a lot of us have found new homes for our old data. Many more have decided to stop contributing new data until the whole thing shakes out.
David Brin's 1999 book offers his expert advice: Don't stop looking back, and don't shut up. I agree with him. I think we should do this all the time, in all situations, or we're in for a future that will make Orwell and Huxley look like Ren and Stimpy.
There is a thread in Feedback, I can't remember what it is called, where you can request a group be featured. Someone should put this group on that! Put in "Goodreads Controversy" or similar into Google, it's a major news item it seems. If I knew how to use Twitter and the trending thing, I'd do that but I don't.
Feel free to add this status update to your list(s) as well: http://www.goodreads.com/user_status/...
I informed the people in a group that I moderate but I don't know what will come of it since it's not very active. Still, it's something.
Would it be too annoying to post on our friends walls? The ones who seem unaware of it?
I guess if asked it could always be removed...

I just feel so enraged when I see people are not aware of what it going on! Do they just not care? Or are they a victim of Goodreads machinations?
Like I was! For days! Argh.
