I'll add that one to my list of books to read! I read a quick romance novel during our 11 day Florida vacation. We were so busy & exhausted from the theme parks that I needed someone mindless. Now I have started The Martian. So far I am hooked!
I am six books behind schedule in my goal this year. I blame it on the big books I'm reading. Currently I'm reading the third book in the series A Song of Ice and Fire, colloquially known as The Game of Thrones series. Each book is around a thousand pages, so it's taking longer than I'd expected. LOL!Someone on CPL's site started reading Infinite Jest this month... that's one I'd love to do a re-read of. I read it in 2013, and as soon as I finished it, I wanted to read it again, but it took me almost half a year to get through that one.
I didn't see this in the lists, so I posted in last week's. I finished Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, and am now reading Danse Macabre by Laurell K. Hamilton. Next up is The Martian by Andy Weir, and then a couple of Netgalley books (that I hope to be able to load onto my Nook, so I don't have to read them on the laptop).I was online last night and came across an interesting talk that Neil Gaiman and David Mitchell gave last month. It was fascinating listening to them both talk about story and writing and everything. Of course, now that means I have to read David Mitchell's books. :)
Hey, Sunny. Welcome to the community! I have been interested in Infinite Jest as well, but it's so daunting! Every time I read a review or hear someone talk about it, I get apprehensive that I'll spend a ton of time trying to get through it and then not get much out of it.Ann, David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas was a phenomenal book. I really enjoyed it. I was even one of the few (?) who enjoyed the movie. I thought the way they handled the casting was super interesting.
I'll let you know what I think when I read the book. It might be a while, I want to read his books in order (yup, I'm OCD that way).

I've also heard really good things about The Martian . I'm waiting for it from the library now. Has anyone seen the trailer for the movie they're making of it? I'll be interested to compare the two.
For this week, I finished up Superman and Philosophy which was a pretty good mash-up of pop culture and philosophical concepts. Now I'm working on How to be a Heroine and The Book of Speculation . My family is going out of town so I have six days to read, read, and read.

But, yeah. It took for-freaking-ever to get through the first hundred pages or so. After that, it got a little easier.
I finished The Martian. It was awesome! I read it in one day (stayed up until 12:30 finishing it). Not sure what to read next.

But it was hard to wait to get through it! I really want to read it again and think I will actually read the physical book this time.

I also decided to reread Saga, which I really enjoyed when it first came out. So I thought it would be a quick, easy read for lunch breaks.
