The Prophet discussion

I know I tend to follow the beat of my own drum so to speak, but this book is a poetic instruction manual for life. I keep it close by, it's always as close as my iPhone since I can find all the chapters online anytime. I recently shared it with a man who said he would "never get married." After I showed him the piece on "Love." He softened and said, "That's beautiful." He didn't say he was ready to seek love, but it was clear his armor was a bit more permeable. To me, that is the magic of Kahlil Gibran.

That's err..nice, I guess--but if you were following his precepts you wouldn't even own an iPhone.

Hah! I know, the daily part just has to do with how I remind myself, through his quotes, of his principles for healthy relationships, love, freedom, joy, sorrow...
Why do you say that he would not support the idea of having an iPhone? Are you a Kahlil fan?

I've internalized most of what his words say, and don't take it literally. I see it as a poetic version of the creative forces that work in our lives.

I love this book. Don't read it daily but it is beautiful! Poetic and inspiring. It's a book I will always cherish.

I used Kahlil Gibran's quotes in my book, In Movement There Is Peace because I try to fashion my life after his poetic words. I didn't expect to mention it here, but I decided I would bring it up today because the book is free for download today only. My words don't even come close to the poetry of Gibran's prose, but the message is the same. The admiration I have for his wisdom gives me the courage to let go of my worries each day.

Gibran's soul is talking from this book; but it is nice to have your own soul realization. Gibran just shared his thoughts, so that you could construct yours. Peace be with all of us!

Noel: I read and discover Gibran's soul AND his wisdom. They inspire me to observe the world and remain open to all that transpires while remaining anchored to some basic truths such as the realization that without sorrow there can be no joy. I am grateful that he shared his genius and poetry with the world. It is good to know that others feel the same.

Just finished today and I totally agree with you with the instruction manual for life thing. I can see myself referring back to this book even when I'm older. Also, I think reading it again would bring a new and deeper understanding in the ideas that I might have missed the first time around, so I'm with you on this one! :)

I went through a difficult phase of my life by literally opening the book at random. Sometimes the phrases would "guide me" other times they just lifted my spirits.

I pick it up every so often to "take a sip" as it were from the wisdom on any given page but it has been a while since I read it all the way through. I do read the Tao Te Ching everyday.

Dear Elaine , as u show this book to the man who never wanna marry.. i suggest to give this book to all those who seek to live a better life.. about marriage its so wonderfull.. i have a compile copy of all khali's work and u know i keep it with my bed table all the time .. And when i am upset with this world.. i used to travel with Khalil who was born to write..

one of Khalis work is compiled in "the Wanderer" the book starts with the thought of "beauty and ugliness"please do read this lecture.

I read "The Prophet" 2 years ago (exactly when I was 13) want to admit that this book changed my life , I was obsessed with books and writings but I have discovered a new type of books and literature, its a kind of wisdom and maturity to believe in the philosophy of being a human ,to find your inner peace and to read Gibran's points of views and words in this life . I read this book everyday , in my mind it's my guide in this journey of life . Gibran Khalil Gibran will never be forgotten . XOXO

I have read every book of Gibran, from The Prophet, sand and foam, a tear and a smile, a mad man every book.
And Gibran resonates me so deeply, his views and philosophy changed my life.
I read Gibran everyday, even I have read all his boooks so many time but I never get tired of reading his thoughts.
I love to keep him alive in me!

For me it inspires (so I search it out) and connect me with my own wisdom to flow.

The book means exactly nothing. I read it once and threw it out of the nearest window.

Why do you say that?

When I finished reading it, I felt the same way. It is a beautiful way to fashion life. I agreed with much of what he said, he said things I had always thought, but he put them so eloquently. I will continue to revisit it throughout my life. Glad to hear you absorbed his word so well. An author would be proud & humbled to know people feel so passionately & share his views.

This book is like a letter written by your forefather which you would read more than several times and would never get bored reading it.

This book is like a dictionary that you would often open to find a meaning.

This book is like a magical spell that would spellbound you.

If you read this book in the time of distress, you would find guidance, in times of joy, it would overwhelm you. It is like a teacher, like a friend and like a mentor of you life.

Only the part On Children :) I think it's the most well written of all.

I have two copies in the house. One's a hardcover that I never touch because I want to pass it on one day.

The other is a softback that I read at least twice a year.

I honestly believe that if more people would read this book, the world would be a much better place.

No. But I feel that I'm gonna re-read it some time in the future. It's one of the books that you'd definitely want to re-visit.

This book is kept on my desk and is read frequently in bits and pieces just as Rumi is.

finished well. i like this, had been meaning alittle than i know before. it was good, has simple concepts. just read on ebook actually :)

I read it when I was 20. My teacher, who recommended it, told me that if cells connect to each other, this is because they love each other. lolll I thought that she smoked real good stuff. ;) But, maybe, this is why she loved this book so much. Maybe I should re-read it after smoking something strong. :P

I read this book daily. I keep it under my bedside table and read a random poem each morning. Today it was Reason & Passion. "Move in passion, rest in reason."

It's just simply a piece of art!
I have the illustrated version that has beautiful pictures and drawings in it. They add magic to the magical words written by Gibran.
This book is to be sought after in times of loneliness, hopelessness , and despair, and also in times of happiness,joy, and serenity.It's a true comforter .. It teaches readers how to make life meaningful if they hadn't realised the meanings of life alone, and it also adds beauty to the lives of those who find life so meaningful.
"The Prophet" is sheer delight!
It definitely should be read very often.

The Prophet is my life book.

I absolutely love this book! I think Khalil Gibran came into this world with something extra! Have often used it in speeches especially at weddings. If more people lived these words, it would be a spectacular world!

I quoted some of his words in one of my speeches, as well. I definitely agree with you, the fact that Gibran has brought something extra to this world. It seems he had a beautiful soul with a whole lot of wisdom.

I read it only once, the book contains a lot of different messages for life , family, humanity and all life aspects . I enjoyed reading it .

I don't read it too often, but I do have a copy for reference on my book shelves. I love his thoughts about our children. In essence, he says that we don't own them. The universe does! As my children get older, I think about this a lot.

I also like his line about marriage in which he says, "Let there be spaces in your togetherness." The older I get, the more I find his thoughts to be profound, leaving long-lasting imprints.

No, but I definitely should! LOVE this book and how it resonates with me. In, 'Walk The Line,' June Carter gave Johnny a copy of this book. It was just a brief scene and the only way I knew it was the self portrait on the cover. Found something online that said Johnny had narrated an audio reading, 'The Eye of the Prophet.' Not the same book, but I would love to hear that recording. I have most of the verses halfway memorized and a small copy with his artwork in it. He was also a talented artist. Just found I can get the free audio narration of that book through Amazon if I agree to pay $14.99 monthly after that. Dang it! I would love to hear that! Especially in Johnny's voice......

I think its awesome that you carry this book with you everywhere as a reference and that you share it with other people as well. Did you know theres an animated film about this book?

I even had to record the poems by myself with my own voice and add some motivational instrumental behind. Its always in my phone
