Everyone suggesting a book sounds good to me. I'm also big on ebooks, especially ones that I can manage to nab for free. I don't like to think of it as pirating, because if the book is good, I always buy it for my bookshelf. :)
I have been reading the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher and I've been thoroughly addicted for months since it was recommended to me by a fellow geek friend of mine about this time last year. Its a paranormal series about a consulting detective/ wizard, but the main characters is a geek himself, especially Star Wars, and he references films and TV series, so a treat for all geeks
I think that having the book be readily available to everyone is very important, especially since we're an online book club and not meeting in person.
I think somebody told me about Dresden Files recently, but I can't remember who! Luke your comment made me think of another important question. Do all of the books we read have to be gay and geeky? How about the members?
Totally agree Matthew. Also if many of them could be eBooks/ available on Amazon as Kindle editions as I've gone over to a Kindle as the most convenient way for me to keep up with my passion for reading
I'm on a Kindle too. I didn't believe people when they said it would make me read more, but for now it seems true!
I think its not important if the content is gay or geeky. Ideally both, but genres perhaps better way to choose: Fantasy, Science Fiction, Paranormal, Comics/ Manga/ Graphic Novels etc.
I think most if not all of those genres fall under the umbrella of geeky. I don't think this is a huge issue if the group stays this size, but we may want to come up with some guidelines for when/if the group gets any bigger.
I like the idea of us each suggesting a book. I'm hooked in the divergent series right now. And the third book comes out on 10/22

I am right there with you... Divergent is so good, and such a quick and easy read. :)

I'm going to suggest books from my unread stack. The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman is pretty short
I've been in a book club before and this is what seemed to work for us. Each month a member would choose a book. Genres were all included. We had one month to finish it. Also it had to be a book that one had not read before. If it was a series it had to be the first book. We all had to vote if we wanted to continue on reading the series. Also we all met to discuss the book over some margaritas ^_^ but I don't think we will be able to do that. So maybe some of these rules can be use for our book club. Either way I am supper excited and can't wait!
I'm in another online book club, The Sword and Laser. It's a large group, so a lot of what they do wouldn't apply to us. If people want to continue in a series they do it on their own. As far as picks, sometimes they are voted on based on suggestions from they group and sometimes the moderators pick the book. They try to pick books available in different formats, but they know they can't please everyone all the time
I like the idea of one book per month (at least for now) and I also like only reading the first book of a series.
