Tell us about yourself and why you're a fan of Sarah Addison Allen.

message 2: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Herring | 1 comments I am new to her books and I love the way they make you think about life and yourself!

message 3: by Amy (new)

Amy (amyrica) I cannot even remember who suggested I read Garden Spells. But, once I did, I had to also run out and get The Sugar Queen (which was the only other book released by SAA at that time). I adore her writing style, the whimsical stories and fun characters, and the worlds she paints in her stories. I also love that she is so approachable and responds to questions from her fans. I met her on a tour and she is a real sweetheart. I've loved every book she's written but I do believe my favorite is Garden Spells. Well, either that one or The Girl Who Chased The Moon. Can't decide!

message 4: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiethegreatie) | 3 comments Hi. I'm new. I thought I'd give goodreads a shot because I love to ready just about anything :)

message 5: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (suzanadanna) | 4 comments I've been a fan since reading (I believe it was an ARC) Garden Spells and recommended the series to countless customers before I sold my bookstore. I LOVE the magical quality of the books and always look forward to the next release (and SO miss getting ARCs!) I live about an hour from Asheville and love that the books feel like home. :)

message 6: by Rickie (new)

Rickie | 3 comments I'm not new to Goodreads, but I can say without hesitation that I've gained a lot from the different genre I've been introduced to by my friends here. Reading has always opened new doors to the way I think of things, plus it doesn't hurt when reading as the characters shaped in the books to my children.

message 7: by Dianneb (new)

Dianneb I'm new to the author but love Goodreads and the many new reading suggestions I have garnered. Will be checking out other books by this author.

Nancy (mydogzmom) | 1 comments I'm new to Goodreads. Lost Lake sounds interesting. And a free iPad Mini would be great!

message 12: by Letty (new)

Letty (lpblanchard) | 1 comments Hi! I'm new to this group but not to Goodreads. I have read three of Sarah Addison Allen's books: Garden Spells, The Sugar Queen, and The Girl Who Chased the Moon. Really enjoy her writing style and characters she creates in her stories. I'm looking forward to reading Lost Lake plus her other books I have not read.

message 13: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3 comments I fell in love with the writings of Sarah Addison Allen when I stumbled upon a copy of The Girl Who Chased the Moon at my local library. I quickly moved on to Garden Spells, The Sugar Queen and The Peach Keeper. The magical quality that is infused in each of her books is something that draws me in and makes me yearn for more after I have turned the last page of each of her works. I am very eager to read her latest novel Lost Lake!

message 14: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sjmk) I found The Sugar Queen in a book swap and thought it had the loveliest cover and dove in immediately. I absolutely adored it and devoured the other books as quickly as I could get my hands on them. I've re-read The Sugar Queen and Garden Spells more times than I can count - I zip through them whenever I need a pick me up. Can't wait for Lost Lake.

message 15: by Leah (new)

Leah (leah_moss) | 3 comments I stumbled upon Garden Spells in 2010 and LOVED IT! I rushed out and tracked down hardcovers of her other books for my personal library and even got to meet Sarah and have her sign my books when A Girl Who Chased the Moon came out. She is a lovely person and a great author. I have been praying for her speedy recovery and looking forward to her new book for a long time now!!!

message 16: by Tessa (new)

Tessa I first came across The Sugar Queen on the bargain table at Borders. The story sounded wonderful and I loved the cover art so I bought it. Once I got home I looked up Sarah Addison Allen here on Goodreads and read about Garden Spells so I went back out and pick that one up. Sarah quickly became one of my favorite authors. I love her characters and the little bits of magic all through out her stories. I have read all of Sarah's books but I don't think I could pick a favorite, I just love each one of them. I can't wait for Lost Lake to come out.

message 17: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Reynolds | 1 comments Hi, Stacey here! New to the group but been a fan for years! Stationed at Camp Lejeune AGAIN in gorgeous NC!!! Been following Sarah's career and her recovery and so blessed to have found her great writing! I am also extremely grateful that while in Bahrain during the Arab Spring, our small Middle Eastern Base received a donation of all of her books in hardback to add to our small base library. The Navy and Marine wives really appreciated some fun chic-lit to add to the selection!!! What a great person and inspiring talent!

message 18: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenlynn97) I am Jennifer, and I am a working mom of two boys (7 and 4). I have a master's degree in English Literature. I love Sarah Addison Allen's books because of the richness of character and the magical realism in her books. I am mainly a fantasy book fan, but when I cross into straight fiction, I love her books. I saw the cover of Garden Spells in 2010 and bought it on a whim, and then I went and read everything she has written that I can find.

message 19: by J (new)

J | 1 comments Picked up Garden Spells at my local indy bookstore years ago. Devoured it. And have read all of Sarah's books. Huge fan!

message 20: by Connie (new)

Connie I feel in love when I read The Sugar Queen, it is one of my absolute favorites. I love all of Sarah's books and have read them all at least twice.

message 21: by Magpie67 (new)

Magpie67 | 4 comments Hello, my name is Dena. I'm a mother of two teens and two fur babies (hunting dogs). I'm an avid reader, belong to book clubs, one I run myself here on goodreads and facebook with a web page as well. I work at a small newspaper office where I am the office manager/accounting girl friday plus I write a weekly column for my book club. I love Sarah's books because they are magical and full of small town quirkiness. Brilliant characters and thoughtful prose. My first book to read was Sugar Queen and I believe the cover caught my eye first and the story second. My absolute favorite is The Girl Who Chased The Moon. I am going to re-read The Sugar Queen for one of my clubs on goodreads and as far as I'm concerned I could re-read these titles once a year! I recently gave my daughter all the books to read and she devoured them in 2 weeks or less. She is trying to wait patiently for Lost Lake like her mother.

message 22: by Claire (last edited Oct 15, 2013 11:13AM) (new)

Claire (crabbyone) | 4 comments Good Afternoon Friends of Sarah.
My name is Claire and I don't remember how I got introduced to Sarah's writing, but once I started I simply had to seek out all her books and buy them. She is awesome and can't wait to read the latest one coming out.

message 23: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Brooks | 2 comments Hi, I'm Ruth! I live in PA with my husband, Andy and dog, Louie.

Where do I start??? I started with Garden Spells and the love affair with SAA's books was instantaneous. Needless to say, my reading world has never been the same. SAA's are the only books I buy right when they are released. They usually sit on my book shelf for a few months before I read them. This is only to prevent the inevitable...that the stories will end. I am left with the same bittersweet feeling that has followed each read. Sweet (usually because of the sensory overload of sweet confections that have danced among the pages) and bitter because it was all over TOO soon.

SAA's books are literary perfection. She sweeps me away with every southern tradition and leaves me rooting for every female protagonist. What I love about her writing is the amount of thought she puts into every supporting character. To this day, Evelyn from Garden Spells is amongst my favorite characters of all time. Sugar Queen will always be my favorite, whether it be the smell of peppermint and grilled cheese sandwiches it envokes when reading or the story of 2 young women finding themselves for the first time.

I cannot say enough about SAA. She is my all time favorite and cannot wait for Lost Lake.

message 24: by Kate (new)

Kate (katefish) | 5 comments Hello! I'm Kate and I'm a bookaholic. I have been reading since I was 4, and have not stopped since! I was given Garden Spells by my sister when it first came out, and have loved every single one of Sarah's books (I'm hard pressed to decide which one I love the most, as the frontrunner is always the one I have reread) :). I love her writing style, she not only has an enchanting story, but a beautiful way of relaying it!

message 25: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Thomas | 1 comments Hey there I'm Sarah and I am just in love with all of Sarah's books. I just can't pick a favorite. The stories are so light hearted and unique. Her writing style is absolutely fantastic. They really put you in a good mood! I have recommended her books to all of my friends and family as well as my patients in hospital who love reading.
One of my favorite quotes:
"Books can be possessive, can't they? You're walking around in a bookstore and a certain one will jump out at you, like it had moved there on its own, just to get your attention. Sometimes what's inside will change your life, but sometimes you don't even have to read it. Sometimes it's a comfort just to have a book around." from The Sugar Queen

message 26: by Joy (new)

Joy Gerbode (wingsofjoy) | 3 comments I LOVE Sarah's books ... I've read many of them, and have been anxiously awaiting a new one. I love them because I firmly believe "Everything's Magic!" ... and her books add that magic that makes life wonderful. And you're never quite sure if it was really magic, or imagination, or just exactly what ... but I'm content to call it magic.
I, too, love the quote shared by Sarah (above) ... and that was exactly what made me read my first SAA book ... it just about jumped off the shelf at Target into my hands.

message 27: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cheryltiffany) | 4 comments My name is Cheryl, and I am a mother and wife that enjoys traveling, reading, and cooking. Reading is my way of escaping after a long, busy day.

I stumbled upon The Girl Who Chased the Moon in a small bookstore in the town of Hanapepe, Kauai. I was there on vacation, and was intrigued by the quaint bookstore. After seeing the book on the shelf, I knew I had to get it. After reading the book along the beach and on my flight home, I was hooked. I immediately bought copies of all her other books. Her stories are pure magic that whisk me away each time I read them. I can truly say that she is my favorite author. I am looking forward to the release of Lost Lake!

message 28: by Amelia (new)

Amelia Adames-zamora | 1 comments Hey there! My name is Amelia and I am a certified bookaholic. I first experienced Sarah Addison Allen's delicious writing (because there is no better word to describe an experience with her writing) when my mother gifted me with a copy of Garden Spells for my birthday.

I truly enjoy her books, from the stories to the beautiful book jackets, and am so very excited about Lost Lakes!

message 31: by Diane (new)

Diane Landy | 8 comments I have enjoyed all of Sarah's books. Love the magical realism--a great way to incorporate a little magic back into your own life!

message 33: by Marla (new)

Marla I'm a fan of Sarah's because she writes beautiful stories with a touch of magic and whimsy. She's balanced real life with fantasy and I like that. I also love how open and fun she is with her fans (here, on FB, etc). When authors take time to genuinely connect, I love it!

Can't wait for Lost Lake!!

message 34: by Amber (last edited Oct 15, 2013 01:13PM) (new)

Amber (puresurplus) Nice to meet you all! I am just another casual reader and garden variety housewife living in North Carolina.

I haven't read any of her work yet. Some of my friends entered the giveaway, and Lost Lake looks like something I would actually enjoy. Therefore, here I am.

Where is this poll to qualify for the Dream Big Challenge?

Never mind, found it.

message 35: by Helen (new)

Helen Baldwin | 4 comments I read Garden Spells and loved it, was attracted to it, initially, by it's cover, then went out and found Sarah's other books and read all of them, and in so doing became a fan! I'll read every book she writes!

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

I received Garden Spells as an ARC while working for a now-defunct Borders in Athens, GA. I immediately loved the regional shout-out and the natural ability to relate to the complex characters. I continue to read and love Sarah's books because of her ability to write strong female characters dealing with difficult situations without falling into any negative "chick lit" stereotypes. And who doesn't need a little everyday magic?!

message 37: by Carlymce (new)

Carlymce | 9 comments I'm Carly, a librarian in a Minneapolis high school and Sarah Addison Allen is my #1 most recommended author when other teachers come to me for a book to read; she's always a sure bet!

I LOVE her books; the just slightly unreal reality that she weaves.

message 38: by Shawn (new)

Shawn (shawnsquared) This is the first I've heard of the author and her books. They look like books I will enjoy reading and have such beautiful covers, too. (I for one do sometimes judge a book by its cover.)
