Lisa | 2 comments I'm about halfway through this book, and I honestly cannot figure out why it has so many rave reviews. The plot could be really interesting, but it's so predictable. OK. Now we're going to have a bear. Now we're going to have a natural disaster. Oh, it must be time to meet somebody mean. Now, somebody gets blamed for something they didn't do. Now they are vindicated. Now it's time to change the location. And all the time framed by this light Harlequin-style romance. It is so simplistic I can hardly get through it. The one merit it has is its setting in time and place. It is interesting to read about the fur traders and the indigenous people and the people struggling to bring civilization to a wild country, but it could be written so much better.

Now, perhaps my attitude needs adjusting. I did go back and look at the reviews again, and it seems this book is aimed at young adults or possibly late teens. It's an OK story, but I just think it could be so much better.

Maybe the second half is better.

Baqash | 106 comments Lisa I agree with you, and no it doesn't get better. I read later the authors to look liberties with the facts.

☯Emily Ginder I believe the book is fiction, not non-fiction.

Baqash | 106 comments It is, and even more so now. Originally it supposedly presented her life. She was introduced to the authors and later a movie was made. somewhere in the process she tried to sue the producers of the movie but only had recourse against the authors. When confronted the authors admitted to manufacturing more than was originally stated.
