Just wanted to know if anyone in group has read Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese and if so what did you think? I am currently reading it and find it fascinating.

I read it some time ago, it was excellent.Same author wrote early book on AIDS which is a subject that is of interest to me also.
I also read it shortly after it was published and enjoyed it immensely. It definitely stayed with me. When I hear news stories from that part of the world, I feel like I understand them more deeply than before I had read the book.
I was mainly fascinated with his depictions of Ethiopia and the people of that country, very enlightening! I will have to look into the other book on AIDS... Elizabeth, have you ever seen the HBO movie called Angels in America? Really excellent!
No but I saw a play here at our university. In early days of pandemic I shared my home with people with AIDS. An amazing and moving journey with them.So I look for those stories!

I worked with this really nice guy Jim who unfortunately died (he had Karposi's Sarcoma) So sad :(
