The 2002 version is delightful! Rupert Everett and Colin Firth are hilarious. I probably laughed most at the 'muffin' sequence. And now I have that little song that Colin sings stuck in my head again! ;)
Delightful, yes! It was refreshing to see Firth 'cutting up' like this, and yes, the muffin scene is hilarious. :DDo you mean the song they sing to serenade their respective ladies? This was one of the scenes that makes the new version so much better. :) Too funny how they change locations and he keeps playing the piano while it's being moved.
I found the play online , lol, I didn't know it was subtitled A Trivial Comedy for Serious People. Teehee.
That must have been so much fun to see! this type of dialog seems very well suited to a live performance.
certainly one of my favorite movies (and Judy Dench as Lady Bracknell is just priceless)... actually this movie is the reason that when Reese Witherspoon opens her mouth (in her normal accent) I'm always shocked a bit, cause I keep expecting British to come out - I've heard that all her British co-stars thought that she was spot on on the accent, as apparently the British accent of the time period is hard even for Brits to pull off!
The song is actually lyrics written by Wilde himself too from what I hear - I need to read the actual play though - since I love the movie so much.
oh absolutely! Actually I wish it had slightly fewer characters so I could try and convince my local theatre that we should do it! But its a bit big of a play I think for the group I perform with unfortunately...Not to mention that not everyone can pull of a British accent very well as evidenced at our last audition!
LOL - I live in the middle of nowhere culturally so we don't actually have professional companies around, but I keep my eye out for stuff over near my aunt and try to go see things when I go visit her... (I used to live somewhere that wasn't such a cultural wasteland and I didn't appreciate it at the time - I could hit myself over the head for that)Glad to know that it is having a bit of a revival none the less though!

Anyone seen this or the older version?
