Okay, I'm scrapping the challenges. I'll just list whatever I happen to read.

SeriesesesesHard to believe that, prior to the influences of Mobilereaders, the only series I'd ever read were Harry Potter (still haven't read the last two) and Anne Rice's Vampire chronology (Vamps + Mayfairs, also still never read all of them). Then came Harry Dresden. Guess I'll go ahead and list the ones that I want to get to or likely won't have wrapped up before 2014 arrives.
Series I've started before 2013 but not caught up yet:
Sandman Slim - Kadrey
Joe Pitt - Huston
Series I want to read:
Twenty Palaces - Connolly
Strain Trilogy - del Toro
Caught-up series with new books coming this year:
The Hollows
Series I started instead of the ones listed above (LOL):
Kate Daniels
Kara Gillian - caught up and waiting
Harry Potter re-read - one left to read
Completed Series finished in 2013:
(none yet)
Update 7/22/14 - so aside from reading the latest in The Hollows and The Dresden Files and reading Kate Daniels which wasn't even ON the list, I've accomplished nothing on this list. Yay me! :D
Update 8/9/14 - I'm finally making progress! Yay! I've read more in both "not caught up" series, and I've almost finished the currently available books in Kara Gillian (on #5, have #6 ready and waiting). I've also only got the most recent Kate Daniels to read. Twenty Palaces and Strain may or may not make it this year, but it looks like everything else might end up in next year's "caught up and waiting" or "finished" list.

Haha! I was bored last night and had a few ideas for next year's challenges. Of course, by the light of day, I don't remember them.

Homeinmyshoes | 567 comments Looks like there were eight of them. That's all the help I can provide.
I was thinking award winners for my challenge next year and try to cover twenty different awards somehow. Or maybe to finish off some series year. That would give me about thirty books.

In 2011, we started the 2012 threads in the middle of December. In 2012, we started 2013 in July. This year, we started in June.
By 2015, we'll be making our threads two years in advance.
:D

rotf!
I REALLY hope GR finds a way to get tickers working properly again. My challenges won't be near as much fun without them. :(

that is cool...
And the new year has begun... with me totally not in the mood to read. Maybe I should start tracking my gaming activity here too. :D
Hey I don't see why not.Sorry about the New Year reading slump, hopefully you'll recover sooner than later!
*shrug* I don't see it so much as a slump, but rather a shifting interest. :) It always swings back around eventually.

I think you should! It should be interesting by the end of the year. Especially to see what you were playing while not reading.
Okay, here we go.Jan 1 - 6th gaming update: Skyrim, Alpha Protocol, Mass Effect 1, Mishap: An Accidental Haunting
Was playing Skyrim: Altmer, female, Arcane Archer. Running an ENB on it now, and though performance is pretty good it lags a bit in some areas, so I needed a break from that.
Decided to play Alpha Protocol for a while. Have had this one since a couple sales ago (or maybe the Summer Sale?) After I got used to it (during the handy tutorial mission) I got into it. However, I ran into a boss fight that was like running into a brick wall so I needed a breather from it to avoid a rage quit.
Meanwhile, I had downloaded a hi-res texture pack and ENB to use with Mass Effect 1. While stepping away from Alpha Protocol, I decided to install and test that. I created a new female Shepard with the intention of just testing the game a little, and I was going to keep her to play later, but ended up playing a few hours.
A friend of mine finally decided to play a male Shepard for the first time so I decided to create one as well, mostly to see if I could make an attractive one. Well, then I ended up playing him for a few hours as well.
Got both the male and female Shepards to the same point in the game, at least, but now I'm torn because I'm kind of enjoying the male perspective a bit. However, since I never intended to play him, I chose a class I'm not in the mood for - Engineer. My FemShep is a Vanguard and has Shotguns, which I've never used before in ME, so I'm kind of enjoying that.
And in between all that RPG / Action goodness, I played a few sessions of Mishap: An Accidental Haunting, which is a cute HOG (hidden object game).
As to your shepherds.. Can't you continue to give them equal time, even if its to play one for a day or week, and then play the other for a day or week?Whatever you decide, you seem to be having a good time, so Yay! :)
Nyssa wrote: "As to your shepherds.. Can't you continue to give them equal time, even if its to play one for a day or week, and then play the other for a day or week?Whatever you decide, you seem to be having ..."
I thought about that. Just doing what I did last night made it a little confusing remembering who has already done what. Granted, the mission journal helps with that. But I think I'm going to try it anyway. I really do like them both, for different reasons. Just wish I'd chosen a different class and name for Winston Shepard. LOL.
I think at some point, one or the other will stand out as "The One" and will get played through the rest of the trilogy, and the other will get shelved until I'm ready to play again.
There is a difference in some of the dialog options for each, and of course each has different romance options.
See, I'm a casual, simplistic gamer. I like Time Management (Anything-Dash), Hidden Objects (Gardenscape, Dream Inn - this a relatively new obsession), Match 3 (Bejeweled, Rise of Atlantis) and Ball Shooter (?) (Zuma , Sparkle 2) type games. Basically the stuff you find on BigFish for the computer and iProducts.
Nice shots!I've mostly focused on reading and review writing. I'm home sick so I'm probably going to bed soon. But after maybe some gaming...

And mystery / puzzle games. The only games I don't really like are hardcore shooters with no fleshed out story elements. I like time management games but I really stink at them so I don't play them often. :D I also like physics games on my tablet.
@MrsJ - sorry you don't feel well. Get some rest. :(

Aww! Yes, Get some rest! & Feel Better Soon, Hon! (((HUGS)))

:) With time management, I'm good up to a point and then all of a sudden, I'm not. LOL
I'm not good at the mystery puzzle games at all! Shooters aren't even allowed in out house.Neither hubby nor I like them, nor do we want the kids playing them. We're also not fans of the sport related games, they just don't keep our interest - even when we used the Wii.
Our kids are into Minecraft (both on their PCs and the XBox 360), PVZ, platformers, racing games, and for a while Skylanders.
You know, now that you mention it, I don't like sports games either. They are so much not a part of my world I didn't even think about them. The one exception is racing sims. I like those, or at least I did last time I played one. One of the first games I ever played was Pole Position on Atari way back when, so that probably has something to do with it. Haven't played one in ages, though I did buy one in the Holiday Sale.
I think many if not most people could probably find some sort of racing game that they enjoy. There was one, back in the day, on Atari that I really liked, because the background would change from day to night and I thought that was the coolest thing, ever! :) I have no idea what it was called, though. It was out around the same time as Pitfall (which I liked but it drove me crazy).
I like racing games, too. ^.^ But that's it for sports. Hubby plays those and I never can understand why.
Gaming update!Totally out of Mass Effect for the moment. Guess it was too soon to try that one again.
Finished Alpha Protocal. Pretty cool, will definitely play that one again.
Started Deus Ex: Human Revolution. LOVED IT! Loved it so much that I finished it, then upgraded to the Director's Cut version, and played through it again. I can see myself playing that game over and over for a long time to come.
After I finished DXHR-DC I felt a bit lost and couldn't settle on something to play. Ended up getting back into Civilization V. Forgot how awesome that game can be. Had a blast with it all weekend and about to start another game of it later today. It's the only game I can totally lose at and still feel like I accomplished something.
:-DI want to go back to Diablo II so I want to get the expansion - I finally located my old copy.
But...the freaking expansion is still $20!
I've got the expansion. It's totally worth $20. My favourite was making totally ludicrous characters that shouldn't work.
Homeinmyshoes wrote: "I've got the expansion. It's totally worth $20. My favourite was making totally ludicrous characters that shouldn't work."Really...
hmmmm...
Worth it for the assassin-style character class. My favourite character, although the Druid and his minions is kind of fun during the lower levels. The extra area is kind of fun and the better sets and stuff are entertaining. Better uniques to collect more storage space. All just making a better game.
Though it seems there should be no relation between Civ V and Diablo II, I bought the Civ V expansion Brave New World for somewhat similar reasons: to make different playstyles viable. Random commentary: As much as I love Steam (especially compared to other clients like Uplay and Origin) the whole "early access" thing is starting to annoy me. I really wish there was a way to filter those games out of all store views. I know some gamers have nerdgasms over being able to come along for the development ride, contribute and test, but I'm not one of them. Blah.

Agreed
I have a suggestion for your shitstirrer list! The Raie'Chaelia by Melissa Douthit
linky: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
I didn't do the hyper because Melissa is...nutty. The reason I suggested this is for the author - the book isn't controversial.
Melissa is the person who started the Reviewer/Author wars. Here's the beginning: http://www.pocketfulofbooks.com/2012/...

Funny how life makes adjustments - when personal drama ramped up a bit, suddenly the deliberate seeking out of drama-causing books seemed less attractive. But hey, the good news is, I'm actually reading a book! I was sick all weekend. Still kinda sick, and yesterday I was too miserable to play any games so I started

How are you feeling??
I feel you on the drama.
But congrats on reading!!! And I love that book!
I still feel like crap. Still have a headache, still have a sore throat, and it really didn't help that right before I woke up this morning, I had a dream that my roommate wrecked my truck. (In the dream, he had been driving it, and when he pulled up to the house - we have on-street parking - the front passenger tire was hanging sideways and all kinds of parts were hanging off of it. I woke up right after "what the FUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!" Not a great way to wake up.)
But, I do feel better than I did on Sunday, and a little better than yesterday.
I'm really liking the book. I wasn't sure if I would, but I am. I recall that a lot of the reviews disliked the fact that she
(view spoiler)
but I can really, really relate to that.
I've only read to the part where she's talking to Corwin.
That's a horrible way to wake up!It could put you in a bad mood all day...
Re: Kate - The book/series gets sooo much better...and Kate makes sense...later. :)
Thanks. :) (((HUGS BACK))) I am feeling a bit better as the day goes on, though it's raining and icky which surely isn't helping. But I'm off work now so I can get back to Kate Daniels. :)
Finished Magic Bites. Wow, I really liked it! In fact, I may end up doing what I did with Rachel Morgan and just keep going with the series. Fortunately, it looks like I can get at least the next few from the library.
