Chastity Bono WTF ??!?!?!?!
This isn't all that strange as far as I'm concerned other than being the first time I've seen somebody in the public eye transition.
Can you imagine how hard it is to come out as transgendered? A hell of a lot harder than coming out as gay.
Right. Absolutely, Sarah 432! I feel for the Willis/Moore kids too. We're all just people, in the end, doing the best we can.
Rumer Willis is a HORRIBLE actress. I feel bad for her because someone, somewhere, told her she could act.
Barf. But at least she seems kind of normal...or at least hasn't anything bonkers of which I'm aware.
I don't know, y'all. She looks like a ninja superhero. That CHIN! Those eyes! She's tantalizing and lovely on the top half and manly and scary down below.
I'm a bit turned on and off at the same time. I guess she's slightly appealing, a bit below Tilda Swinton, but above others.

absolutely. Ninja superhero. Like Lucy Liu and Mickey Rourke had an Wiley Wiggins-ish hot, lesbian daughter.
Chaz is a cutie.I loved this comment regarding the gender pronoun discussion at the end of the article:
I think it all depends on which department they buy their jeans in.
Cher is probably having a horribly difficult time with this. She struggled with accepting Chastity's lesbianism, so I'm sure she'll be devastated by all this.
Which is kind of ironic, considering how fervent a supporter of the gay community Cher has been in the past.

I always think about that when I trim my nails short. Apparently lesbians have super short, unpainted nails.
Stop. Stop it right now. All this girl flirting...I want to sit quietly and treasure the moment.Thank you.
...
er, we can't teabag. We're girls.
And now the thread has gone THERE.
Wowza are we on fire today!

::Sher brings out the good tequila and lime slices:: I'm pourin'... who's drinking with me?
I have to say that becoming transgendered is something I can't even comprehend, but I admire the hell outta anyone fully intending on doing it. I've met a few and found that many, many of them are so bonkers that I don't think changing their physicality is going to make one whit of difference (except, perhaps to make their life even more screwed up), but the very few who seemed to have thought it through and were really at peace about it, they seemed some of the coolest, down-to-earth, secure people I've ever met.
I say good luck to her ... um, him.

I don't know any who aren't better off physically or psychologically living as the person they felt they were meant to be.
This isn't meant to come across obnoxiously, but would a book help? I could probably recommend something.
Body Alchemy Transsexual Portraits - it's an art book of photographs by a man who transitioned from female, with essays. On the more political side --
Gender Outlaw On Men, Women and the Rest of Us
Read My Lips Sexual Subversion and the End of Gender
And in a more abstract way, James Tiptree, Jr. The Double Life of Alice B. Sheldon - she wasn't trans, but I think some of the identity issues are similar.
Of course I'm the only one still on the subject, but here's a good piece from CNN.com http://www.studentnews.cnn.com/2009/U...
I could have used this back in Chicago when the transsexual prostitutes used to try to pick me up while I walked to my car to go to work. We could have had better conversations than me constantly saying, "no, no, no thank you" and sliding into my Lesabre before locking all the doors.
Thanks for posting that article, Sarah Pi. It was poignant and eloquently written. (Awesome Donna Rose!) Now if we could only make the rest of the world read this stuff and start opening their minds.
i had a transsexual hooker grab my butt as i walked past in Honduras. i was too busy being mesmerized by the exaggerated eyebrows until it was too late and i had been goosed. i just went "heeeeeeeeeyyyyyy" and kept walking double time. he just giggled

So do I.

here's some help for me! Thanks Sarah!
Gen Silent was a great documentary. There are interviews on youtube with the director/producer/cameraman Stu Maddox. It's about elderly LGBT and the lack of acceptance/acknowledgement in the health industry.

Second, they named her CHASTITY?
Third, she wants to BECOME A GUY?
Holy shit!
