First of all Sonny and Cher HAD A KID?

Second, they named her CHASTITY?

Third, she wants to BECOME A GUY?

Holy shit!

Matthieu | 1009 comments Fucking strange. I read this earlier and laughed at humanity.

message 3: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments
This isn't all that strange as far as I'm concerned other than being the first time I've seen somebody in the public eye transition.
Can you imagine how hard it is to come out as transgendered? A hell of a lot harder than coming out as gay.

Right. Absolutely, Sarah 432! I feel for the Willis/Moore kids too. We're all just people, in the end, doing the best we can.

Félix (habitseven) Sally wrote: "We're all just people, in the end, doing the best we can."

That's for sure.

message 6: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Rumer Willis is a HORRIBLE actress. I feel bad for her because someone, somewhere, told her she could act.

message 7: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I have to admit I never heard of her before this. I'm so out of touch, y'all.

message 8: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Barf. But at least she seems kind of normal...or at least hasn't anything bonkers of which I'm aware.

message 9: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 1009 comments Yeah, she's much better off than her mother.

message 10: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I don't know, y'all. She looks like a ninja superhero. That CHIN! Those eyes! She's tantalizing and lovely on the top half and manly and scary down below.

I'm a bit turned on and off at the same time. I guess she's slightly appealing, a bit below Tilda Swinton, but above others.

message 11: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 1009 comments "Ninja superhero"?

message 12: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
absolutely. Ninja superhero. Like Lucy Liu and Mickey Rourke had an Wiley Wiggins-ish hot, lesbian daughter.

message 13: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Makes sense to me.

message 14: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell We're no longer talking about Chastity Bono, are we?

message 15: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments Sorry, cannot resist this.

Is Chaz having an Addadichtomy?

message 16: by Lylly (new)

Lylly Emerick | 52 comments Chaz is a cutie.

I loved this comment regarding the gender pronoun discussion at the end of the article:

I think it all depends on which department they buy their jeans in.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Cher is probably having a horribly difficult time with this. She struggled with accepting Chastity's lesbianism, so I'm sure she'll be devastated by all this.

Which is kind of ironic, considering how fervent a supporter of the gay community Cher has been in the past.

I always think about that when I trim my nails short. Apparently lesbians have super short, unpainted nails.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments That's how we can spot each other on the street.

Thank you.

::*brews Jackie a fresh pot of tea*::

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I hope you're using loose tea leaves, Sally. No teabagging for me...

message 29: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Ha!

message 30: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
...

er, we can't teabag. We're girls.

And now the thread has gone THERE.

Wowza are we on fire today!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments :::crosses her legs primly, sips her tea and looks away innocently:::

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Sally, Darjeeling?

message 33: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Ooo! Thank you so very much. Do you also have a slice of lemon, I wonder?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Of course!

:::passes Sally the dish of lemons:::

Sugar?

message 35: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod

Naw, thank you though, Turkish.

*sips tea daintily, pinkie out*

I'm sweet enough.

I'm pourin'... who's drinking with me?

I have to say that becoming transgendered is something I can't even comprehend, but I admire the hell outta anyone fully intending on doing it. I've met a few and found that many, many of them are so bonkers that I don't think changing their physicality is going to make one whit of difference (except, perhaps to make their life even more screwed up), but the very few who seemed to have thought it through and were really at peace about it, they seemed some of the coolest, down-to-earth, secure people I've ever met.

I say good luck to her ... um, him.

My trans friends are confident in themselves, and cool people. I don't know any who aren't better off physically or psychologically living as the person they felt they were meant to be.

message 41: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments This isn't meant to come across obnoxiously, but would a book help? I could probably recommend something.

message 42: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Body Alchemy Transsexual Portraits - it's an art book of photographs by a man who transitioned from female, with essays.

On the more political side --
Gender Outlaw On Men, Women and the Rest of Us

Read My Lips Sexual Subversion and the End of Gender

And in a more abstract way, James Tiptree, Jr. The Double Life of Alice B. Sheldon - she wasn't trans, but I think some of the identity issues are similar.

message 43: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Of course I'm the only one still on the subject, but here's a good piece from CNN.com
http://www.studentnews.cnn.com/2009/U...

message 44: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I could have used this back in Chicago when the transsexual prostitutes used to try to pick me up while I walked to my car to go to work. We could have had better conversations than me constantly saying, "no, no, no thank you" and sliding into my Lesabre before locking all the doors.

message 45: by Lylly (new)

Lylly Emerick | 52 comments Thanks for posting that article, Sarah Pi. It was poignant and eloquently written. (Awesome Donna Rose!) Now if we could only make the rest of the world read this stuff and start opening their minds.

message 46: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i had a transsexual hooker grab my butt as i walked past in Honduras. i was too busy being mesmerized by the exaggerated eyebrows until it was too late and i had been goosed. i just went "heeeeeeeeeyyyyyy" and kept walking double time. he just giggled

here's some help for me! Thanks Sarah!

Carol | 1678 comments Gen Silent was a great documentary. There are interviews on youtube with the director/producer/cameraman Stu Maddox. It's about elderly LGBT and the lack of acceptance/acknowledgement in the health industry.

message 50: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments A friend of mine, David, is now Alaina. He was always beautiful dressed in drag. Now she's beautiful, as well... and she's been embraced by the Heights community (a combination of both VERY conservative and ultraliberal) where she sells insurance.
