Sounds tasty lol.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Here I was calling myself an Edelweiss pro, but can't for the life of me figure out how to search by Marketing Plans. Can someone help me out?

message 9: by AmberBug (new)

AmberBug com* | 94 comments I haven't been finding them out that way. I've searched for books under "titles" with the parameters of date to be published from May 2014 to Dec/Jan. I also narrow down that search to "Lit", "Non-Fic", etc (of whatever I'm interested in). I browse the books one by one and save the search so I can pick up where I left off. Tedious but I love lists, so I actually enjoy doing it during downtime at work. ;)

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll have to give that a shot, Amber, thanks! (I'm a sucker for some good Edelweiss browsing, too).

For bloggers who have been to BEA in the past, do you hold off on requesting books from publishers for Summer/Fall until after you've returned? There are several summer titles I'm eyeballing, and now would be the time I would start requesting, but I feel like I'd likely see them there?

message 11: by Aisha (new)

Aisha Oaktree (aishao) I hold off especially if it comes out around BEA or right after because this is how they get the buzz going. I also try to meet the reps at certain booths so that I can be more likely to get the books in the mail or be approved later on net galley and such. But it's up to you some authors won't be attending and if it's a big enough title they may only have excerpts instead of full galleys.

message 12: by Running (new)

Running | 195 comments Mod
I would request it now for a few reasons.

1. You may see it there, you may not. You should request it incase it won't be there.

2. Some people that go to BEA don't have the same requesting opportunities, or they depend on BEA to learn about some of these books. If there is a good chance that you could receive the book from the publisher outside of BEA, then you should let someone else get it at BEA. (IE. A Librarian who doesn't see the same buzz like bloggers do online might depend on going to BEA to learn about these books. I say this as someone who is not a librarian so I don't really know how it works ordering books.

3. If you're shipping you're books home or even carrying them home, why add one book that you could have waiting for you at home.

4. Like Aisha said, it could make you more likely to be approved later, but at the same time, you could mention that you've requested it and if you express a lot of interest in the title, it's possible that the publisher will take your business card and ensure you're request goes through. A few times I talked to publisher's expressing my interest in books that I had requested but had no been there. The publisher appreciated my interest and took my business card (which had my address on it) and they passed it on. When I got back (and sometimes a few weeks after) I got the book. Sometimes I didn't. It was hit or miss depending on the publisher and how many requests they got.

5. Did I mention not having to lug a book around when it could just be sent to you? Trust me, you think it doesn't matter but it will.

By all means though, if it's a pub that you never get your requests from, then there is no hard requesting and trying for it at BEA. Worst case scenario, you'll be able to host an awesome post BEA giveaway.

Did I ramble? Sorry, I totally did.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

That ramble was a perfect answer! I'm definitely not feeling like lugging a ton of stuff around and I'm pretty limited in luggage space, since I'm taking a train back. Thanks!

Running | 195 comments Mod
Yeah. Also, if you're leaving from Penn, you can stop at the Post office of 8th. It's got pretty extensive hours and is open on Sunday.

I don't think that it will be there. I hear Harlequin is giving her the year off because she's been touring since she released Pushing The Limits.

Don't get my wrong. I would die to get my hands on that book. So if It's there, I'll be thrilled, but don't get your hopes up.

message 18: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
Its possible that they'll promote through other means - such as the publisher sessions both on site and off site (like the one Harlequin did with the tea last year). Or for a specific group (they may be pushing it to booksellers during the ABA sessions). Heck it may even be part of the BEA Bloggers book offerings (though that's more doubtful).

I've found in the past if the book is earmarked for promotion at a Trade Event (such as BEA or ALA, not something like San Diego Comic Con or New York Comic Con) it'll be there, but in a very reduced capacity and not promoted as being there.

She's not going to be there she's at RT in May, but the galley was listed as promoted at BEA, I know a few titles they gave out at the tea and pre parties that weren't for regular drops so I'm hoping to it will be in one capacity or the other. I don't think they want me stalking her any more than I do. Lol

Harlequin Teen had a breakfast last year and they had a few books there that they didn't have on the floor at BEA, so it's possible.

message 30: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
I believe Harper also had books at their luncheon that weren't avail on the floor. I can see them wanting to restrict the availability on a property they already know has lots of readership (at least insofar as printed ARCs are concerned).

message 31: by Jessica | (new)

Jessica | The Drowned Page (thedrownedpage) | 119 comments Two years ago they were supposed to limit the availability of Son by Lois Lowry to the author breakfast she attended and just have her signing posters on the event floor later in the day, a few hours after her signing they did an unscheduled drop of probably about 50 - 100 copies (which thankfully my dad ended up snagging one, but there weren't many people around it because no one knew when it was going to drop). Maybe Take Me On will be something similar :) You'd just need to stalk that publisher's booth.

message 32: by Jessica | (new)

Jessica | The Drowned Page (thedrownedpage) | 119 comments From the BEA list of authors signing I'm assuming the following books will be there:

• The Vault of Dreamers by Caragh M O'Brien. - Only book she's releasing this year.

• After The End - Amy Plum

• Get Even - Gretchen McNeil

• Trial by Fire - Josephine Angelini

• Ashes to Ashes - Jenny Han (maybe, or To All the Boys I've Loved Before, she has too many coming out this year)

• Rooms - Lauren Oliver

• Lair of Dreams (Diviner's #2) - Libba Bray

• Carnival of Lies or Made for You - Melissa Marr

• Fire & Ice or one of two Ever After High books coming out later this year - Shannon Hale (personally I'm hoping for the EAH books)

• The Fine Art of Pretending - Rachel Harris
