Rant, complain or just vent!!!!
Too much private conversations on too many threads between just two people and one of them is antagonistic so no-one seems to be joining in. Hurry up and come back Emilee and shake everything up.

Hmmm. Would that be something along the lines of having your feet smell and your nose run? :O
I am back, rant it only took me 45 mins last night to get my internet up but I am glad to be back and play and chat will all my friends.....
Thank you Fi! I am feeling very behind on all the threads now that I can actually read them....
Never buy packaged salad.
I was sitting down to a nice meal and found a rabbit dropping amongst my lettuce.

Thanks for the welcome back everyone!
It was pretty disgusting.
Know the feeling, Fiona! Maybe you're going through a stressful time? I sometimes get cramp in my neck and am prone to headaches, but I've started taking cod liver oil capsules. Not sure if it's the actual capsules themselves or the positive mindset.
Anyhoo, hope you feel better soon.

ranting...why do people have to get mad at each other in the scrabble games? First of all no one is going to go back and look at all the words that were played I don't think many of us have that kind of time to do that. Second, even if someone repeats a word is it really that big of a deal? It's a game for goodness sake. Those of you who may think one person is right over the other person, I have a question for you...is it really that serious that we have to attack each other? Come on people it's a game lets just all have fun. :~)Ok done ranting. :~)
Fiona, look on the bright side - a perfectly innocent excuse to fork out for a neck or back massage/' remedial massage therapy' :-D

Good point, Richard, but maybe they just use the livers of the fish already killed for people like me to eat too much of?

Lisa Julianna: thank you, very true it is fun and we need to make it fun!
Hopefully this will cease so that we can all have fun.

But it was actually one of your letters to me that was so much the sort of thing I didn't want from a friend that I thought it best we weren't friends any longer. And maybe that's why you want to insult me here. I also remember that you insulted another person on here who also seems to have it in for me but whom I never knew of until you mentioned them. Allegiances change fast, eh?
I wouldn't have written this Emilee but I see no reason to be attacked here and not defend myself.
I have closed ALL of the games until everyone in the group can start getting along. There have been too many personal attacks on members of the group and this will not be tolerated!
This group is suppose to be a place for all to gather and enjoy each other. I don't like seeing group members attacking one another. Their are currently book gangs in the group and I have to deal enough with children fighting at home that I will not tolerated in my reading group.
I am giving everyone a clean slate as of right now. My request is that everyone gather their composure and remember that this is a way to make new friends, share common interests, enjoy books we've read and are going to read. When everyone can get along a little better I will reopen the games.
In this request, I do realize that not everyone is going to be BBF's but I expect that everyone will be treated with respect and dignity. This goes both ways.
I have in the last two weeks received several emails from those who have felt they were attached and in some cases some individuals have been attached by written posts outside of Goodreads. This is not okay!
It just takes a handful to ruin it for the whole group. But I have faith that everyone can work together as a group and fix this situation. At this point since the games are the source of contention the games are taken away. When everyone can play nice I will reopen the games.
Until then please read and share your thoughts!

Petra, first of all I apologize for any offensive email I sent you offsite. Nothing I ever sent you was meant to be offensive. My sole response to your removing me as a friend was to email you that I wished you well in the future. I did not know what had offended you. And secondly I never took the comment titled the person above me as being directed to me. I was not the person listed above you. There were many things posted that I took as insulting to another person. Personally I did not feel attacked very often. I am glad Emilee has put in a cooling off period. It will be helpful I think to the group as a whole. It seemed to me that there were those attacking one friend repeatedly. I felt it unfair and hurtful. Rather like a bullying act by several people against just one person. Ganging up, one might say. This is my assessment of the situation. I speak for no one but myself. I would hope the group can continue and I hope displaying a generosity of spirit that seems to be often missing. We need not invite each other home to dinner if it has come to that. Awful thought, but maybe reality.Sandra
I am so saddened this morning...as I was reading the posts here on GR...a friend from my church called and told me that another friend of mine's husband died in a car accident this morning. It sure makes you think that you truly need to enjoy the people in your life.I'm just sitting here in shock.
I am opening the games. I will say this once -NO FIGHTING OR OFFENSIVE COMMENTS.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Thanks Michael! I don't think we will have any more problems.

Michael: Your forgiven. I am actually really use to it so it just slides down my back.
I HATE reader's block. I'm down to one book that I'm currently reading which, for me, means I'm two or three or four books behind. I want to read something by an author I haven't read yet but nothing is grabbing my attention enough to get started...even among authors I have read. Oh well, I'll probably wake up in the middle of the night knowing exactly what I want to read but all the bookstores and libraries will be closed at that hour. Did I mention that I HATE reader's block?
I've been in a reader's block state for about two weeks. I just can't finish a book and I normally read 8 or 9 a month.
Reader's block is awful! When this happens I usually try to read something light and fluffy. After one book like this I'm back to reading the things I normally read.
When I get reader's block I try changing to a completely different gender. For example, if I'm reading a historical novel, I'd try some science-fiction, or a mistery novel. I that doesn't work, I re-read The Lord of the Rings. I've read it so many times that I don't have to start at the beginning anymore, and I can drop it when I find something else to read.
I've finally the finished the book I was stuck on. So I might have got over the reader's block too. I think four books from the same author in a row (and it was quite heavy reading) might have been a bit much.
Petra X wrote: "I've finally the finished the book I was stuck on. So I might have got over the reader's block too. I think the main thing is to not beat yourself up about it. Personally I have had reading blocks that have lasted months and generally it was the style of the last book that did it.
It wasn't the heavy writing style, which I loved. It was the fact that the The English Teacher was supposed to be R.K. Narayan's most autobiographical book. In the book, the teacher is, through a medium, in contact with his dead wife. In death she is a hell of a lot clever, chatty and serious than she was when she was alive. It was just too hard to accept and that was what was heavy-going. I've now started Penelope Fitzgerald's At Freddie's and after only three pages I'm sucked in so I think I'm over the reader's block!
It wasn't so quick, sadly, I'd hardly read anything all week. But yes, in the past now and I have three books on the go: fiction, Penelope Fitzgerald's At Freddies, a style book Seaside Style by Diane Dorrans Saeks and a book about Dr. Mengele and the twins he experimented on in Auschwitz by Lucette Matalon Lagnado. Weird mix!

Urgh, my laptop just crashed. Half-finished manuscript may be lost for good! These things always happen & are enough to make me consider writing in longhand.

Have you got a friend who is good with laptops who could give you a second opinion on whether it can be saved and if so how much of it?
Nope :'(
Looks as if I'll have to fork out or just wait and pray for miracle of some kind.
I see you're reading The Forgotten Garden. Have you read The House at Riverton?

Sorry to hear about the ongoing laptop problem. I have not read the other book but will add it to my list.

How did it crash? I am not too bad at fixing crashes (so long as they are software) and might be able to help you.
