Another author joining to promote her book in the Introduce Yourself thread. Message #621.ETA: Also, can we please get a statement on the use of promotional signatures in posts? The same author is using them in posts throughout...
Thank you Jennifer. I've removed the authors four posts that violated our group rules and notified the author. I'm now going to edit the self-promotion rules for signatures.
Can I bring up a new subject. I befriended at his request and he is sending book referrals of some porn books. How do I unfriend him?
Elizabeth wrote: "Can I bring up a new subject. I befriended at his request and he is sending book referrals of some porn books. How do I unfriend him?"go to friends select edit friends and find the name delete and you are done.
When you change/clarify the rules are we authors notified somehow? I do review the rules when I'm trying to promote my book or giveaway, to make sure I don't mess up. But something like an autosig I might not even think about checking. I don't think I've had any autosigs haunt me on Goodreads, but occasionally I forget to delete one on Yahoogroups.
Heather L wrote: "Jennifer, I'm glad I'm not the only one annoyed by the "billboard" type signatures!"they drive me bonkers! :)
Also - thanks Briansgirl! :)
This thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...is a good topic, but I think qualifies as "Authors needing help" (I think) and maybe should be moved.
BUT, he too is using a promotional signature.

I don't send out group messages. I only added it because some authors are putting a signature on the bottom of every post that is a paragraph long promoting their books. It's like they're only commenting on threads so they can leave their signature promotions around. Most aren't too bad, but when the signatures are bigger than the responses, it gets a bit ridiculous.

Okay, I've added this to the group's self promotion rules regarding signatures:
Clarification: I will allow a single line or bookcover. I'm not going to police everything. But when the signature lines are full paragraphs, often times larger and longer than the thread comment, then it becomes too much.
I can't police everything and as long as it stays small and tasteful, I won't say anything. But if it gets out of hand, which some lately have been doing, that's when it's gone too far. Hope that helps.

Where I screw up is when I'm replying from outlook to groups. My outlook signature has information about my writing and my yoga studio. So forgive me in advance if I screw up here. I don't have an autosig set up on Goodreads, so hopefully it won't be an issue.
Usually it's not too bad Tracy. The worst offenders are authors who join just to push their books. They don't really participate and are usually easy to spot.
LOL Melodie I was just coming here to post the same thing! Here's the link, to make it a bit easier for you: Giveaway Success
Where do you suggest I put a discussion in which I invite authors to share their silly mistakes made in manuscript drafts? It doesn't seem to fit under 'Authors needing help' or 'What do you think?' sections. 'Cozy authors' do you think?(I'd actually been poking fun at myself for doing something silly when I suggested that discussion, but at least one other writer thinks it would be a fun discussion and give readers a chance to see some of our "quirkier" sides...)
Link for me to the exact thread and let me know which message numbers you'd like removed and I'll get to it for you later.

Carol wrote: "I don't think there is any way to do this, but just in case I am missing something, I'll ask! Is there any way, in the Member Challenges folder that we can delete a message that someone else posts ..."With your old posts Carol, if you don't want to delete tjem, tuck them away in a spoiler then you can refer back to them if needed.

Thank you. I think I finally found it. I got rid of one anyway that was in the wrong place. Thanks for letting me know.

Sorry, I should have linked directly to it. My bad.
If we see something like that, should we post here for you to delete instead of flagging the comment? I had flagged the one Jennifer mentioned as self-promotional in an inappropriate thread for the GR staff.
You can flag them if you want. If you post it here, then I will go and delete it from our group. By flagging it for GRs, if they find the person abusing GRs terms of service rules, they can take other actions against them. However, sometimes they are just abusing our group rules. Once I remove a comment though, GRs no longer has access to it if it's flagged.

May I please second the removal of this one, Briansgirl?? Pardon me while I go barf............
I had seen a discussion for FREE cozy mysteries but couldn't find it again. Here's a link for one: http://www.amazon.com/Hardboiled-Murd...
Carolyn, the books on Amazon listed for free are usually only free for 24 to 48 hours. You have to grab 'em quick.
People like this person need to be ignored. He gets his jollies this way because he obviously has no other way to get them. Do your magic, Briansgirl.
Aaron is extremely offensive. He obviously joins blogs to see how many buttons he can push. I hope he is blocked soon.

Sorry ladies I didn't catch him sooner. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
I have flagged the above comment. Please do so as well, to bring it to GRs attention. I am though, going to work on removing his inappropriate comments in our other threads.
