Looking for some good contemporary fiction books with love stories, like Atonement, The Time Traveler's Wife, A Very Long Engagement, Water for Elephants,The House at Riverton, The Red Scarf, Cold Mountain, and the Outlander series.

Please no Nicholas Sparks, though. And anything with a little mystery would be great as well.

Why not try Burnt Shadows - Kamila Shamsie. 'Burnt Shadows' is a powerful, sweeping epic crossing generations, cultures and continents. Initally set at the end of WW2 in Japan and moves on to India and America. Well worth a read.

I highly recommend The Help.

If you liked Water For Elephants I would suggest a The Bearded Lady by Sharlee Dieguez. It's one of my favorites!

I recommend Elephant Song by Wilbur Smith. That novel made me fall in love with his work.

The Man Who Loved Books Too Much, by Alison Hoover Bartlett

I really like Sandra Brown. She has written romance books ( not too mushy and graphic as far as I know. I have only read 2 of them). Her newer stuff I would call suspense I guess. But there is usually a bit of a love story in them. I really enjoyed Standoff, Smoke Screen,Smash Cut, Fat Tuesday,Long Time Coming.

Joy Fielding is another author I really enjoy. I have read all but 4 of her books and they are all really good!

I agree Gabby81...both are on my keeper list! I hope he comes out a 3rd...

Recently I really enjoyed Heat Rises. It is a book based from the TV show Castle on ABC. It is the third in a series. All three are good but this one was my favorite.
