I'd say yay. About three years ago, my mentor in all things digital and media related told me it was the way to go, mainly because new media and the digital revolution was making traditional publishing obsolete. It's sort of a paradox really. While these technological advances are making it so that publishing houses are taking less risks on new writers, it is also opening new opportunities for writers to bring their works directly to market and promote themselves.
As they say, exploit it!
