Hmmm...so what are everyone's thoughts on the matter? I've been reading a lot about the subject, I'd love to know what everyone thinks. Is non-monogamy & polygamy natural and inevitable/unforgivable acts? Is monogamy the only way to go/too idealistic/impossible/fantastic?

I think polygamy can get way out of hand. And honestly, when I get married I don't want to share my husband with someone else. I want him to be my only partner, and I want to be his only partner.
I don't think they should when it might hurt someone emotionally. If my husband all of the sudden decided "I want two more wives" it would kill me emotionally. I wouldn't be unharmed. I'd be harmed and feel like I wasn't good enough. I'm sure that there are plenty of people who think the same way and then there are others who don't.
I think you should probably discus it with your husband then...I wouldn't let mine, but, to each his own. Or just don't get married...
Well, polygamy should be mutually agreed upon, otherwise it's just cheating. As Lauren pointed out, polygyny is the typical mammalian mating system, so it's kind of hard-wired into us. It's not so easy convincing girlfriends of that, though. ;)
I'm not entirely sure where I stand in this topic. I just know that I wouldn't want my husband to have more than one wife, AKA me! xDSo convince me, if there are people on both sides.
But I do think that if it's for a religious purpose and it's not just to have sex with a bunch of people (which you can do before marriage) than perhaps it should be legalized... I don't know. Undecided!
Convince me!
I do think that if it's for a religious purpose and it's not just to have sex with a bunch of people (which you can do before marriage) than perhaps it should be legalizedWhy should whether or not it's for religious purposes have anything to do with if it's legal or not? If it is legalized, would it be legal only for people who are marrying multiple partners for religious people? Atheists would not be allowed multiple spouses? This would be blatantly unconstitutional. (Not that that's ever stopped government before.)

That's not really what I meant xD As I said, I'm still undecided.
I think that if it works for the people involved then that's fine. I personally couldn't do polygamy (I'm a monogamous type) but there are people who can, and that's their prerogative. It makes them happy and it doesn't hurt me, so really it's none of my business. They don't tell me that I can't be monogamous, and I don't tell them that they have to be.
