Hello Everyone,I guess this is the right thread to propose to continue with the second book in The Giver Quartet. Since many of us felt the first book a bit rushed off in the end and I believe many of us were curious to see how Gathering Blue will come up, I believe if you guys are still curious we can discuss it together here.
So, is anyone in?
I would take part if this happens.A little warning as far as I know Jonas' story doesn't pick-up again until the forth book, so we might be in for a bit of a haul.

I'm in
I'm really glad you guys joined in. And thanks for the heads up, Amber.I don't want to interfere with your reading schedules, since most of us might be committed to other group reads. So, when do you think we can start so that we may set up a separate thread for the discussion?
When are you ladies thinking of reading this? I know I can't get to it this month, but I could fit it in in May or June depending on how far ahead you'd like to plan.
Let us take it one step at a time. How about starting Gathering Blue in May and after we finish it we plan how to go with the rest of the quartet? Whether we go on at the same month or plan to read the next part the following month will be totally up to us and of course to anyone who might join us.
Anytime of the month is fine with me. I'm just about finished with "The Giver". What a delightful book.
Hello everyone! I am looking for someone to read
If anyone wants to join me, let me know :) I'll be starting next week
Paulina, we're reading this in our "5 Village" community read, so sounds like a good idea :-) You'll need to start a new thread for it--Laura can help with that. Everyone in our five towns can get a free copy, and we're having multiple discussions about it.http://www.chelsea.lib.mi.us/

And where is this "5 Village"? is it a book club where I can join?
Here's an article about the "5 Healthy Towns" Community Read, Paulina: http://thesuntimesnews.com/5-healthy-...We've been doing this for 3 years with the themes mentioned; I think after Pollan and Bryson, the group wanted to encourage more participation with young adults, so they chose The Fault in Our Stars for this year's theme, “Connect with Other in Healthy Ways.”
Not sure it will go over with the retirement community, but I'm finding it a quick read, and Hazel is funny as well as gutsy :-)

It seems to me incredible the stuff you do in that page. Found it fascinating that you talk about issues and healthy habits; and have formed a community based on that kind of life. Thanks Julia, interesting to know. :)
Thanks, Paulina--we're five tiny towns near Ann Arbor, but sometimes small means closer connections :-)
I've read two books in recent days that are short reads:My Mom My Hero -Alzheimer's, A Mother and Daughter's Bittersweet Journey by Lisa Hirsch...184 PAGES...This book is basically selections from Hirsch's blog and comments left by readers. It was heart-touching.
The Compound by S.A. Bodeen...245 PAGES...This is a young-adult book about young Eli who thought he was hidden away from a nuclear war--only to find out the war didn't happen!

Or, if you as a member would like to read a book (any book, not just a "short read") you may create a separate thread and invite others to read.
