I've seen parts of the original trilogy. My younger brother loves LoTR, so I'd see some clips in passing.
I've seen (and have) the extended editions of the entire LOTR trilogy, read the books, read the Hobbit, and have seen both movies so far... lol.(view spoiler)
I have a sneaking suspicion that my brother has gotten me LOTR movies for Christmas. He was shopping with my mom and called me to ask which of the movies we already have (only Two Towers)
You only have Two Towers?! How is it that you have the middle of the trilogy, but not the other two?! Oh, my brain...

Hey, he's the one who insulted my intelligence by calling and asking about it... Of course I'll act all surprised.
@Jennifer: It was given to me.

LOL!

Now, why didn't I tell that to the person who gave it to me?

:D I don't know if "mega-fan" is enough to describe how you feel about LoTR?

I wouldn't say so. I would compare the size of my admiration of Tolkien to a Mumakil, or perhaps to all of Arda, but still find it lacking...All I can say is that Valinor for the first time allowed me to see why people would be interested in an afterlife.
Jennifer wrote: "I will confess: I still haven't read all of the Silmarillion... but I did read Children of Huron."I started reading The Book of Lost Tales, but am taking a break from it to read two other books on my list. So far, The Book of Lost Tales seems like the history of Middle Earth than a story.
Yeah... If I gather correctly, a large portion of his writings were notes here and there on the history of Middle Earth, linguistics, family trees, etc. It's amazing how much he put into that world...

It's fictional, yet in most areas he makes the reader think that it was actually real at one time.
@ Jennifer - No, but I know it's too detailed for me. I'd get bored. That's the reason I can't read the Narnia books either. I only the 1st and 2nd one...
@ Narnian - Of course I have.

Paige: They are pretty detailed, but they do have some good characters.
If you think Tolkien's work is detailed, you should try reading Charles Dickens' writings or Jane Eyre... Man, is that depressing stuff –– long sentences, depressing stories, and so, so boring.... Tolkien at least has lighthearted moments, wit, and adventure. Are the descriptions of history and geography a bit lengthy at times? Sure, but it adds to the richness.... The Hobbit is probably less of a drag to read. I wouldn't kick it till you've tried it...

Ew vampire books.
Ew vampire books.
There are great characters in other books too. If I tried reading them I would drag it out and never finish it. I once tried to read Oliver Twist. I got halfway and had to stop.

I read the first and second one of Harry Potter too, but that's it. Details weren't my problem there. It was just like watching the movies sorta. So I didn't really care.

Jennifer wrote: "I will confess: I still haven't read all of the Silmarillion... but I did read Children of Huron."Children of Hurin
And read the Silmarillion. And Both books of lost tales. And most of all The Adventures of Tom Bombadil.
Mojoboy31 wrote: "@Jennifer: Ugh, I could not get into Dickens..."Ha. We had to read Great Expectations for honors English class in high school. I read most of it in one night –– not because I enjoyed it, but because it was the last night of vacation, and I'd put it off all vacation...... Amazing, the amount of reading one can do when under pressure!
The Phantom wrote: "Jennifer wrote: "I will confess: I still haven't read all of the Silmarillion... but I did read Children of Huron."
Children of Hurin"
Why did I say "Huron"? lol... Oh, my brain...

I want to read those... The only one I possess is the Silmarillion.
