None of the immigration/sanctuary storylines and the conflict between government policies and social norms would have worked in US/Canada as neither is as homogeneous as Norway. I thought the reindeer races were hilarious also!

I love the Norwegian or Scandinavian idea all the new characters (and people) have, that of there being no corruption, and everything working so hunky dory all the time and everywhere (one of the reasons I would not want to live in Scandinavia; I can't stand when everything comes prepackaged and pre-explained and prethought in life). Once that gets broken it gets better. Jan is one of the good examples in the series.
And Frank, I mean Giovanni, is just brilliant - his manager and business sense, plus making Norway work for him.
I did mention the series to a Swedish friend recently. He's seen a few episodes and can't stand it as he feels it's embarrassing. I find it just cute. The mentality (everything should work, everything done by government etc), the cute Norwegian hillbillies (esp. Torgeir)... Maybe a short course for anyone's future life in Scandinavia.
I have beome badly addicted to Lilyhammer.
Imagine a guy escape from Sopranos into the middle of nothing in a small city in Norway... with a ton of humor like in the Headhunters, with proper drama, and with a bunch of funny Norwegian hillbillies around there... yes, give me 12 more seasons of it now! :)
