ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) J.D. Robb Collection 1 Naked in Death, Glory in Death, Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb

If you are reading this series, please feel free to jump into the conversation no matter which book you are reading. Please be aware of using the spoiler tags in case people are behind or just starting the series.

The …'in Death' series, written by Nora Roberts under her pseudonym J. D. Robb, features NYPSD ("New York City Police and Security Department") Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke and is set in a mid-21st century New York City. The stories also regularly feature other characters, including Captain Ryan Feeney, Detective Delia Peabody, Detective Ian McNab and Dr. Charlotte Mira.

The series is ongoing and will go on as long as Roberts desires to write it; however, she has famously stated that the series will never contain one of Eve and Roarke's children, as the series will end with Eve's eventual pregnancy—which is nowhere in sight at the current count.

Please note: Each book in this series is a whole story with a beginning and an ending, however there may be minor references to events that occurred earlier in the series. Therefore, with respect to the mystery alone, the books can be read out of order, if desired. However, like any long series that focuses on a core group of characters, there are various relationship changes that develop more naturally when the full length novels are read in the order in which they were published.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) I've got book #38 already on hold for when it is published. Can't wait! I was really happy with the last two -- Calculated and Thankless.

It was nice to see an appearance by so many characters from prior books in Thankless in Death, and as always it's fun to see Eve and Roarke hosting family dinner.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) What are some things you enjoy about this series?

Who are your favorite characters and why?

What do you think about Eve & Roarke's relationship?

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) I just finished Concealed in Death (In Death, #38) by J.D. Robb , book #38.

It was a 3-star read for me. I loved the growth of Eve and how she's really come to enjoy the Christmas holiday in her mansion with Roarke and how she's pretty much come to terms with the fact that having friends and family over to celebrate is a nice tradition to have.

I enjoyed the background info on Mavis.

I liked the plot because it felt different for her books but there was just something about it that didn't quite make it a 4-star or even 5-star for me. I think one part was a lack of most of the regular background characters, but also I had to read it quickly to get it back to the library so I wasn't able to really savor it.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Kindred in Death (In Death, #29) by J.D. Robb Just finished this morning.

I love the development of Eve's character. It's very apparent in this book. And I love the development of all her relationships and the people around her. I love all the other characters and feel very attached to them.

And I have a mad crush on Roarke!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) Roarke is the best!

Stan Morris (morriss003) | 55 comments This series has probably gone on too long, but I keep reading even when the writing seems forced. The best part of the series is the slow development of the family Eve is creating around her, even though she is not, by nature, a nurturing person. I haven't read the most recent book, but the series could do with some older children.
