Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Another group I'm in is currently reading "Barnaby Rudge" Laura! It's called "The Pickwick Club" and they are about half way through, I think. It might be a nice idea to take a look at their discussion threads (they split it into chunks of several chapters, as it's read over a few months and analysed in detail) even if you don't want to join the group :)

Send me the link Jean!
I have to admit it is not one of my favourite Dickens though ...

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Mine neither!

Here's a link to their home page. There are 10 topics on Barnaby Rudge so far as they're in 5-chapter chunks. People are at all different stages though. Hope to see you there :)

Quite! Maybe some books less than last year, with moving house and all, but I like this way. This year I don't want to fix myself on how many books I read, but I want to enjoy what I read and also enjoy something else: going around with friends, setting the new house in order, visiting new places...

I'm curious to know your opinions about Elderkin's book, the title is really intriguing!

Actually this year I'm "below" my standards! But I don't really care: I've changed house, I've started going away for week ends, and to have friends with me ... Less time to read, more time to live. Both of them together

message 37: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie I too have moved and understand completely how much time that takes!!! It sounds like you are happy with your new situation and that is what is most important. I agree, living life first hand has to be better than reading about it. ;0)

And you? Where did you move?

More than that! We moved from a three stories house of more than 300 square meters into a rather big flat, but not 200 m.
Can you immagine my new house now? It looks like "Old Curiosity Shop"!!!

message 45: by Chrissie (last edited Apr 18, 2014 12:23AM) (new)

Chrissie Laura, we have had a similar situation. We moved from Belgium, but some furniture had to go to France and some to Sweden, and both places already had furniture. Downsizing is difficult. Handy with kids who want stuff, but until they picked it all up where to store it was difficult. We have also been living at the dump and selling stuff. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Chrissie Laura, I just bought Jude the Obscure! I wonder how I will react. In any case I want to try it. I remember so very little from reading Hardy ages ago.

I've read it so many years ago that I don't remember it at all. Other of his novels I've read more recently. If you wait a month or so we could read it together!

Chrissie I don't know, Laura. I am not sure I can wait......

Sorry to commandeer your thread, Laura :D
