So, according to Gaiman, a Wodwo or Wodwose is a 'wild man of the woods.' I think this incredibly short poem is Gaiman's way of putting himself in the mountain man's perspective. I think he knows it would never work for him to abandon words- he even says he 'must be mad.' And, indeed he most certainly would be to silence himself!!! And I believe our unnamed 'poet' would have just as much time abandoning words. He is clearly a wordsmith, just like Gaiman...
