The Pickwick Club discussion

I'm opening this new thread to give everyone an opportunity to concentrate on the novel here - as the previous thread developed into a discussion on a bunch of other things.

Somebody, I think it was Everyman, suggested we transfer these wayward discussions to the Pickwick Lounge. I don't know how you feel about it: When discussions move away from the original topic, should the moderators remind you to stick to the topic or go into the Pickwick Lounge?

The advantage would be that it is easier later on to follow the discussion on the novel in question. The disadvantage is that discussions on other things are a way of getting each other to know better, and sometimes human conversation is full of digressions. Mine is always, anyway. Plus, I'd feel a bit like a spoilsport if I had to tell you to move into the Pickwick Lounge.

It's certainly up to you. I have no problems with digressions. What do the active members think?

I go to the lounge when I can, especially once we start on the chapters, but it isn't a big deal when we start discussing lobsters in cellars or falling balls on New Year's Eve, however you want to do it.

This is imminent, but hopefully if you want it you'll pick it up. There's a new dramatisation of Barnaby Rudge starting this afternoon (Sunday) 15.00GMT on Radio 4 in the UK. Three weekly parts, of an hour each. Each is repeated the following Saturday at 21.00GMT.
