Easily my favorite book of the series so far. I just *knew* that Tavi would end up in a command position after Max assured him that he was so far down the ladder that he'd never see action. Loved the Canim, loved the first-hand view of Legion operations, and loved how Tavi turned his fury-less status into a strength.Predictions for the next three books:
* One book will be about a confrontation with the Ice Men
* One book will deal with the remaining internal threats to the throne (Aquitanes and Kalarus).
* The last will be about uniting the Alerans, Marrat, Cannim and Ice Men against the invading Vord host from the late Cannim homeland. This cooperation will be required after the Alerans were weakened from years of internal strife because of the Aquitanes/Kalarans.
* Tavi/Kitai will probably be separated for awhile, as his relationship with her comes under scrutiny. Pretty sure he'll end up marrying her, though.
This is my favourite so far too. I was just writing out how long Tavi had been away from Calderon when Kitae helpfully told us. I love the way he grows as a character.Love your predictions, Willow. Trying not to rush straight to the next book.
Oh, and I enjoyed the Isana Fade bit at the end.
Another vote for best book in the series so far. I am also having trouble not jumping to the next book. Interesting predictions i was expecting Tavi to make peace with the Canim in the end of this book but guess not. Can't wait to see Fade in action in the next book(hopefully).
I thought the most interesting plot going forward is Fidelis being Tavi's first spear without Tavi knowing his true identity. It will be interesting to see how that unfolds. Wonder if Tavi being outed eventually as the first lords heir will bring Aldrick over as well since he was one of Septimus's singulares.
I really like how many developed secondary characters there are in this series it really adds a lot of depth to the story.
Oooh, hadn't thought about Aldrick in relation to Tavi. Interesting point. Think I'd be having more fun if I'd read on instead of reading my group read number9dream, too odd for me!
Ive read this series already and thought it was brilliant. The story and the magic system is fancinating. I flew through this this series last year, i couldnt put the books down.
I read this series a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it - I haven't joined much in the discussions because I can't remember well what happens in what book. But I wanted to comment that one of the things I really like is that Tavi's command decisions are so creative. I think it is because he had to live without having furies, so he learned to think "outside the box." I love Kitai too - her sense of humor and sensibilities.
Just finished! Might be the better book of the three so far, course...nothing without the first two.
;)
Tavi is preparing for his upcoming "role" nicely.
Yes...I agree there will be a joining of races to fight one common enemy.
Moving to the next book now.

This is the strongest book in the series so far, IMO. so, in the epilogue, who was controlling the lamp, Tavi or Kitai? Or both?
