The ALA awards are coming up fast. On January 27th the Newbery medals will be awarded. Let's choose our winners first.
Write your favorite 2014 Newbery contenders here. On January 13th I will take the top ten books mentioned and create our Newbery poll.

Maureen Milton | 5 comments Of the noted contenders, I've only read Doll Bones, One Came Home, The Thing About Luck, & didn't finish Zebra Forest. I did however, finish & enjoy The True Blue Scouts of Sugarman Swamp, a book truly engaging & distinctive in its voice, characters, setting & ideas.

Year of Billy Miller

(and I did love Jinx, but I don't think it has much of a chance)

(Far Far Away is my favorite for the Printz, but there has been a lot of discussion about its suitability for the Newbery; hope it is recognized by at least one award committee!)

(I've read all the books mentioned above except Navigating Early, White Fur Flying, Golden Boy; many "good reads", not that much distinguished writing)

Becky (harperreads) For Newbery I am going to go with:
Doll Bones
The Year of Billy Miller
Courage Has No Color

My favorites were Rump, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library and Better Nate Than Ever. I don't really see these as Newbery winners, though.

I've read some of the others, but not all. I am not sure if any of the others have a chance at the Newbery.

message 27: by Kenny (new)

Kenny Boatright | 7 comments Top Three picks:
1. The Year of Billy Miller
2. True Blue Scouts of Sugarman Swamp
3. Navigating Early

Adrian J. Johnson (Red Masque Media) (redmasquemedia) Doll Bones, because Holly Black didn't win any Newberys. This book should be a Newbery 2014!

Would love to see the list and have had a mock vote. There is a Caldecott group that does this.

This is to create the list. Top ten mentions will make it to the poll.
