This thread is for planning buddy reads! A buddy read is when two or more group members plan to discuss a particular book (or series of books) beginning on a scheduled date.

If you'd like to start a buddy read, post here and see who's interested in joining you, and use this thread to work out the dates.

When you have a consensus on what to read and when, please start thread for your read in the Buddy Reads folder. List the book(s) and dates in the first post, and I'll add them to the buddy reads calendar.

Nyssa | 2023 comments We haz calendar? Where?
Narnia buddy read already in progress. I'm on my phone , so zip can not switch threads to get the dates

Other proposed Buddy Reads that I know of so far are:
The Mistborn Trilogy
Withering Heights
Discworld Series ( possibly )

I had to finish typing it. ;) It's now linked in the first post.

Nyssa | 2023 comments Woot! You are awesome-sauce, as my children like to say! Thank You! :)

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

You're welcome. :)

So, Wuthering Heights: I'd favour February sometime, myself. I'm anticipating being horribly busy in March and the beginning of April.

message 6: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) It's only one book, so I'm good whenever for that one. I'll squeeze it in.

Mistborn, I will need more notice for. I want to give myself time to read the entire series.

message 7: by Paul (new)

Paul I'd definitely be up for Mistborn at some point, I've read the first one before but wasn't blown away by it so a buddy read would be great as I would still like to read the rest but just haven't got round to it yet.

Not in any hurry though so happy for this one to be further down the line.

message 8: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments I'm in for all of the buddy reads so far (how did that happen?) and I'm good with whatever and whenever.

message 9: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments I would like to suggest Heights in February and Mistborn in April. Or since LWW ends in March, we can read Heights in the beginning of April and Mistborn in May.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

The former would work great for me. I'm expecting/hoping/praying to be in Scotland without much in the way of internet around the beginning of April.

For Heights, that is. I don't think I'll be in on Mistborn. :)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments With all the talk of re-reads going on lately, it makes me wonder if I need to set up another re-read ban. Hehe

message 12: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments So we have. +2, so far, (I'm including myself ) for Heights in Feb. & Mistborn in April.

message 13: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) That works for me too, Nyssa. :)

And T, Heights kind of seems like the perfect book to read in Scotland... though without internet it would be hard to discuss it. LOL

message 14: by Paul (new)

Paul Sounds good. I doubt I'll read heights but will join in with Mistborn in April.

message 15: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Becky, I noticed you overlooked my comment about a ban. ;)

message 16: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) About a band? I'm TOTALLY in for forming a band. I'll play the triangle. It's my specialty. ;)

message 17: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I did of course ignore that. 2012 was BRUTAL with no re-reads. I can't do that again. I might maybe MAYBE do a month or something without re-reads, but that would be about it.

message 18: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments I agree. I was just trying to help get your temperature up for ya...

message 19: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Ahh, I see. Thanks. We're supposed to get up to a balmy 15 degrees today! I may break out the tank-tops.

message 20: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Bad Girls Deadlift (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I'll get to Mistborn one day.

Totally NOT doing Heights but I'm doing either Don Quixote or The Divine Comedy sometime this year.
I'm in for discworld.

message 21: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 331 comments I'm in on Wuthering Heights! :)

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, shall we put mid-Feb for Heights then, to break it up from the Feb group reads a little? Say, beginning of the third week?

Sho' nuff. ;)

message 26: by Felina (new)

Felina I'd like to tentatively be involved in the Discworld read. And I'm going to try for Mistborn but list me as an official participant.

Never seem to fail at making me laugh during some point of the day! lol

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Cool. :) I'll make a thread and add Heights to the calendar.

message 29: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments Have we made a decision on Mistborn as yet?

I'd like to suggest Saturday, April 5th.

Plus, a couple of us would like to read Sherlock Holmes (in publication order) as well.

message 30: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 331 comments I'm in for Sherlock! :)

April 5th sounds good for Mistborn.

I would also be in for Sherlock Holmes. Most of the stories aren't too long so that's a good choice to read in between other things.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

It's funny, I was thinking of reading Holmes when I'm done with Narnia. I have the same complete leatherbound edition as MrsJ and I've been looking forward to getting to it. I don't know if I'll be in sync with the rest of you because of my holidays, but I'll definitely discuss even if it's from memory. :)

message 33: by Paul (new)

Paul Carrying on the Sherlock Holmes scheduling discussion, if we are doing publication order we would start with A Study in Scarlet (which in my copy is only about 86 pages), then The Sign of Four (about 54 pages) and then onto story collections which seem to be around 150 pages each.

I suppose I would suggest doing one "book" per month as they're not that long and can be fitted in around all the other reading that people are doing.

I like the idea, just wondering when to start. I'm thinking it might not be until March at the earliest.

message 35: by Emily (new)

Emily (ohmagichour) | 510 comments Fine with me! I will likely start this month because I am in the mood to and know myself well enough not to let the mood pass. :) But I am happy to discuss it whenever.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep, I'm in the same boat as Emily. :) Whenever's good.

message 37: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments Well, I personally, can't start this month. I know myself well enough to know that, but I'm okay with moving it up to February if you all are alright with that?

How about February 2nd?

message 38: by Emily (new)

Emily (ohmagichour) | 510 comments Perfect for me!

message 39: by Paul (new)

Paul Feb 2nd sounds great for me too! (now where did I put that deerstalker and pipe? :)

message 40: by Felina (new)

Felina Feb sounds good to me as well.

I don't think I realised that the first book actually had a title for ages. I always just call it "Mistborn".

Wait. Decom that! I haven't a single copy of any of these books and I haven't read teh sharing knife yet...

message 47: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments I think I may have the whole series, thanks to my hubby. He's been suggesting this to me for years now. A group/buddy read is a great way for me to finally get it read!

message 48: by Emily (new)

Emily (ohmagichour) | 510 comments Let me get back to you after reading the first one, but I am definitely open to it. :)
