Best and Worst Decades of the X-Men?

Tough to pin down. I'll go with the 90s, since it had the Mutant Genesis restart leading into a decent run for the X-Men title, some interesting stuff going on in Uncanny around the same time, and later Age of Apocalypse. Stopped reading early 2000s and saw a lot of bad stuff when I periodically revisited, so I guess that's the worst.

I'm old school so going to have to go with either the first decade or the 70's.Worst would have to be now, as I'm reading nothing with an X in the title.
My pick for the best would be the 80's Claremont run. for the worst - I really can't say - I am not really familiar with anything else.

Ah, remember the days when heroes used to fight villains...?
Those were fun.
I think it was the same time that you could have a hero team without Wolverine being a member.
I do enjoy Legacy, but that might be because it tries so hard to avoid all the other X-titles and stay in it's own little corner.

Ah,..."
I actually do prefer the X-Titles that are not involved in the main series at this point. I'm just not liking the direction that the X-Men comics are going in.

I keep asking and nobody can tell me why I should be reading any current X-titles. That seems like a sign to me.
So, if I want a good X-men comic, I read Triple Helix.
Travis wrote: "I keep asking and nobody can tell me why I should be reading any current X-titles. That seems like a sign to me."I'd agree. I have some friends who are enjoying the philosophy differences between Cyclops and Wolverine and the resulting stories, but I personally haven't been interested in any of the core X-Men stuff for a long while.
The one modern X-book I followed regularly was X-Factor. It was hit or miss but in general I liked it a lot. Peter David is unafraid to shake things up as he goes and experiment with his plots and characters (logically). Now that the new one has started I'll be checking that out.
I enjoyed some of Peter David's X-factor stuff and looking forward to trying the All New X-factor series.

I've been meaning to check out Peter David's run on X-Factor for a long time, but I can never manage to gather the comics! But I'm definitely checking it out in the future!
Thanks for the X-Factor suggestion guys. I'll have to look into it. I read some other stuff by Peter David and rather enjoy it, so...
You're welcome. He wrote four trades worth of the original X-Factor series before leaving the book. It was a government sponsored team led by Havok and had members including Polaris, Multiple Man, Strong Guy, Wolfsbane and Quicksilver.
He wrote the entire run of the 2005 series, which just ended. It had a noir-ish feel and was based around Jamie Maddrox running the team as an detective agency. The team varied but started with Strong Guy, Wolfsbane, Rictor, M, Siren and Layla Miller. They're actually doing new collected editions for this run, starting with X-Factor by Peter David: The Complete Collection Volume 1 coming out in a couple weeks. It collects the Maddrox 5 issue lead in mini-series and the first 12 issues.
And the new series about the corporate run team just started.

My least favorite era was the late 2000s since most of the stories focused too much on Cyclops, Emma Frost and Wolverine and the stories were average by best.
