1. All the Dead Lie Down by Mary Willis Walker by. Sophie Hannah Sophie Hannah
Finish Date: January 12, 2014
Genre: Mystery
Rating: D
Review: Not worth the read for me. I kept falling asleep. I managed to get to chapter 10 and wanted to quit but decided to finish because i put so much time in. I found the book quite boring. No great twists and turns. I have decided to approach future reads with this autor with caution.

Bryan Craig Great effort, I'm glad you are trying.

See if you can replicate Jill's citation on message 3.

3. Wicked Business (Lizzy & Diesel #2) by Janet Evanovich ]by Janet Evanovich Janet Evanovich

Finish Date: January 18, 2014
Genre: Mystery
Rating: D
Review: Not my cup of tea. Not really into science fiction, wizards etc.

message 5: by Jill H. (new)

Jill H. (bucs1960) You are almost there with the citation. In post #9, you do not need the link to the book since there is a cover. If there is no cover, then the link is entered. Plus look at your numbering. This book should be #3.

Wicked Business (Lizzy & Diesel #2) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich Janet Evanovich

Be patient Christine, it takes a few tries to get it to become second nature. Thanks.

Finish date: January 21, 2014
Genre: Mystery
Rating: C
Review: I like the little tips for around the house at the start of each chapter. Nice, easy read and fast paced. Nothing boring about the book. No long drawn out character descriptions etc. just a nice read to listen to when lights go out. Enjoyed. Will read other books in series.

5. Lost in Shangri-la A True Story of Survival, Adventure, and the Most Incredible Rescue Mission of World War II by Mitchell Zuckoff . By Mitchell Zuckoff Mitchell Zuckoff

Finish Date: January 23, 2014
Genre: History
Rating: C
Review: Good story. I would have to say that i was in Shangri-La today i would not want to come to modern society again. I would be perfectly happy there. The epilogue was the best part of the book. Thought it was going to be a little more exciting. Narrator made an attempt to make it exciting but just did not quite hit the mark.

message 9: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Craig Interesting, Christine, it is been getting rave reviews. Do you think if you just read it, you would give a higher grade?

The author needs to be on the same line of the book. Many thanks.

Christine Wahl (maddashin) | 88 comments Bryan

I no longer read a book or see a movie because of the reviews. That has been my New Year Resolution.

I have listened to many books and found the content enjoyable. This one just did not hit the nail on the head for me.

I read "The Forgotten 500" and loved that book as well as others. Just finished "Black Hawk: An Autobiography by Black Hawk" and loved that book too.

However, i would not have found it more interesting if i had read it instead of listening to it. I rarely read a paper book anymore. Can t think of the last time i picked one up. I read books electronically or listen to them 99.9 percent of the time. I will get hung for saying this but i am finding little use for paper books and libraries. Times they are changing. It would be a huge savings to taxpayers to close down libraries as we know them in every small town. I get most of my books delivered electronically from the library. Maybe keep the County libraries open. And the electronic portion of the libraries. Paper books put me to sleep.

6. Black Hawk AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY by Black Hawk by Black Hawk Black Hawk
Finish Date: January 23, 2014
Genre: History
Rating: A
Review: If in fact the story is true it is an excellent account of his tribe s life and his life. The encroachment of the white (pale faced) people and the treatment given to the Indians by the newcomers. I truly believe that the newcomers to America were the antagonizers. Who would push people off their land with no compensation? Us. I believe him when he says that they always treated people the way they expected to be treated. If the American Indians did attack the settlers it was because the deserved it for one reason or another. Stealing crops, invading their lands etc.

12. The Case of the Deadly Butter Chicken (Vish Puri, #3) by Tarquin Hall by Tarquin Hall Tarquin Hall
Finish Date: February 16, 2014
Genre: Crime
Rating: A
Review: First read by this author and i look forward to other books in this series. He adds quite a bit of information about India and their feelings toward Pakistan and what and how he feels about Pakistan. Something that I did not know myself and it was nice to find out.

I love the recipe that he adds in the books. In fact, it looks so good I think I have to try it. Just from the ingredients I know I am going to enjoy it. Starting a new category in my Ipad application for Indian dishes! The butter chicken looks just yummy.

Just lots of little facts thrown in her there and everywhere about India.

13. The Curse of the Pharaohs (Amelia Peabody, #2) by Elizabeth Peters by Elizabeth Peters Elizabeth Peters
Finish Date: February 18, 2014
Genre: Mystery
Rating: B
Review: Never a boring moment that I could not get through the book. Very light reading and not real complicated. Delightful mix of characters. Fun read. Loved the husband and wife team. Loved how she was able to control him when he did not even know she was the one in control. Bits of English humor thrown in.
At times I do not like the reading in an english accent like the Le Carre books but had no problem with this book.
Recommend.
Bits of history throughout the book. True or not.

Christine, I will go through your postings and help you get them edited. The sample that was posted was not accurate and that is unfortunate. In the haste of getting the threads up, there were some errors made. I am going through all of the threads now and trying to help folks make those corrections. In most instances they are an easy fix so no worries.

I will update this post as I have time to go through your posts. You are doing a great job and are coming right along.

Our Required Format:

JANUARY

1. My Early Life, 1874-1904 by Winston Churchill by Winston Churchill Winston Churchill
Finish date: January 10,2014
Genre: (whatever genre the book happens to be)
Rating: A
Review: You can add text from a review you have written but no links to any review elsewhere even goodreads. And that is about it. Just make sure to number consecutively and just add the months.

For Message 3 - change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format).

For Message 4 - two things must be changed or added: change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format) and before your review section - you must add the word Review: before the text of the review itself.

For Message 6 - change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format).

For Message 8 - there are two problems once again. Change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format) and before your review section - you must add the word Review: before the text of the review itself.

For Message 11 - only one problem - change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format).

For Message 12 - there are two problems once again. Change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format) and before your review section - you must add the word Review: before the text of the review itself.

Message 16 has quite a few problems: the citation is wrong but you are trying and you get an A+ for that.

Here is first how the citation should look: (please go back and fix the citation - it is very good practice for you and you need to take the guidance of the moderators who are trying to assist you.

Coming Clean by Kimberly Rae Miller by Kimberly Rae Miller Kimberly Rae Miller

Also there are three other problems - add Review: then the review which is totally missing as well as change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format).

For Message 19 - a recurring issue - change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format).

For Message 20 - a recurring issue - change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format).

For Message 21 - a recurring issue - change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format). Also there is the problem with the date missing once again. Remember this is the first book that you completed in February so at the top like in my sample format that I posted for you - you have to add the month in caps and bold - FEBRUARY You may also want to capitalize the T in thriller and the F in February after what should be Finish date:

For Message 22 - a recurring issue - change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format).

For Message 23 - a recurring issue - change Date Finished to Finish date: (see the sample of the required format).

Thanks for your cooperation in advance Christine and we are here to help you get the above right. You have made great progress.

Review think it is my first Alex Cross book.
Fast read. Not boring or laboring.
Not real suspenseful. But, up my alley with the serial killers.
I gather he is an FBI profiler or psychiatrist that deals with serial killers etc.
I have never had the opportunity to read his profile since this book is late in the series.

Finish date: April 6, 2014
Genre: Mystery
Rating: F
Review: This was a group read I chose. It took me forever to finish it. If I had not commited I would never finish it. In my opinion it was not a good book. Very boring. Slow and virtually no action. In the end I was correct . I picked the culprit. I usually do.
I did not know it was Rowling when I chose the book so that had nothing to do with my view about the book.
All I can say is I did not need my sleep meds because this book did the trick every night.

Review: Good but a bit repetitive. Same thing different day. However, very interesting story. Something one does not know about in history class. That is one reason why I like to read these books about individual incidents that happened during the war. Worth the read.

Review:I had no idea of how much I would like this book.
I purchased it as a daily deal and normally would not read this type of novel. However, it kept my interest the entire time and I think I got through it in less than 24 hours.
Great story about Sophie and her life. Great lessons taught and to be learned.
I highly recommend! Especially for a book club. Lots to be discussed here.

Christine you made some progress in 2014 - we set you up a new thread for 2015 - brand new start - you seem to be getting the hang of the format and you only have to put the month in bold and caps for the first book completed in any particular month - all the mods are here to help and we look forward to seeing your progress in the new year.

message 48: by Christine (new)

Christine Wahl (maddashin) | 88 comments I actually read 57 books in 2014. Do they have to be on order of when read? Or can they be listed in any order.

message 49: by Bentley, Group Founder, Leader, Chief (new)

Bentley | 44290 comments Mod
Just try to put them in the best you can using the format for completion dates - it might be pretty hard to get them exact - so just put in the Month in bold and caps and then list them by what you think were their completion months and fill in the rest. It is always good to have the record to refer back to and these are visible threads even when they are archived.
